    Lightbulb Montey McSlaughter tr'd 12 ranger/7rogue/1 fighter

here is my take on a tr'd dwarf ranger with rogue skills.
[you might be able to tell by now that i am not too imaginative with names ]

my current ranger is a lvl 20 dwarf with 2 green steel dwarven axes and a handful of good bows. my goal was to have a character that could utilize all of that equipment and keep his dps ability while adding sneak attack, UMD and trap skills. also i put ce in for improved trip, and i do not expect to have a significant AC. i've never leveled a rogue and this is the only time i've considered multiclassing so heavily.

i neglected to add in all the other +2 tomes but he'll have one for every stat while leveling. the will save is horrible and i didn't think using feats to augment it was worthwhile.

mostly i need help with skills as i don't know what rogues need to do their job.

my enhancements are just based on a quick once over, but those are easily fixed as you all know.

i might drop str to 17 and put the other points into wisdom as well. that would gain some sp and will save.

for gear he already has 2 greensteel axes, lighting strikes, [one with insight ] also he has a WoE bow, WoP bow with an icy burst ritual, and a few others. i'll probably craft a greensteel bow as well.

also he has the breastplate of destruction [from the hound?] the abbot quiver, tharnes goggles [maybe some other vod gear as well] madstone boots, and probably a head of good fortune. i am sure that i can move over a bloodstone and firestorm greeves.

i'm open to swapping out oversized twf as well, as the +5 to hit while sneak attacking and the destruction armor should more than compensate. but for now i've got to go do some sight seeing in stockholm

edit: there are only a few options i can think of instead of OTWF, in order of how useful i think they would be--

    1) improved critical: ranged [for some extra dps for the few times i use manyshot. it would go nicely with the +2 damage with ranged weapons from pastlife:ranger]

    2) maximize [to help self healing in between fights]

    3) skill focus: umd [if that extra few points is helpful for key items],

    4) extend [for buffs],

    4) maximize [to help self healing in between fights]

I love the healing on my ranger, but with 12 ranger levels, I think oversized trumps all of these other feats. I used to dislike oversized two weapon fighting, but on a toon this glutted with feats, it's really nice to have that advantage to help make up for not having full BAB. Epic has some crazy AC, even with destruction. You should be able to get 39 umd without too much effort, and even 12 minute resists aren't too tough to keep up. As for improved critical: ranged, it's okay, but you melee at least 5x as much as you range.

    What Rocka said.

Monty I'm working on the same thing with Potvin (well, slight variant) and honestly, I think OTWF at 12 and honestly don't regret it. I miss plenty even with it.

meant to say I 'took' OTWF at 12. Posting and working don't always mix (fortunately, I did the working part well)

will this build still hold up well for solo'ing? i think it is up to about lvl 14 now

i haven't played for about a year but i just resubbed because swtor isn't enough to keep me interested for more than a few hours a week.

    Welcome back, Monty

Rangers are always good soloers, and you can do traps, too.

I'd probably switch out combat expertise and improved trip for improved sunder and power attack. Since you left, nearly every raid boss in the game has gotten mega fortification and one of the key ways to drop it is the now-revamped improved sunder feat, which gives -5 AC, -10% fortification. Even when you fail one, it gives -3 fort saves, so it's nice to use right before a stun to make that land faster. The idea about stun instead of trip is just that it immobilizes them in a way that they take 50% more damage instead of just knocking them down.

    See you around.
