Solo Caster

I have played the melee type of character for a while now. I'm wanting to try a caster class. What is making my decision hard, is that I'm mostly a solo player. What would be the best class or multiclass combo for a solo caster? I don't want to be a buff casting fighter. Going for primary attack as casting and maybe a splash of melee; since it seems like melee is necessary sometimes in this game.

I was thinking:
Wizard
or
Sorcerer/Paladin
or
Wizard/Fighter


Would greatly appreciate any opinions.

WF 18 wiz / 2 rog.
You have evasion and nice reflex saves to help survivability, good spells and can heal yourself.
Trapsmithing for 15% more xp.

What he said. Once you click arcane and WF you're 90% of the way there. 2 rogue levels will be icing on the cake.

Take one more step, and add a level of barbarian. The sprint boost and base movement speed goes well with perma-haste
