Default The Road by Cormac McCarthy

Hey all, I just finished reading this a couple minutes ago. What an excellent book.
Its tough at times, but also amazingly forgiving. The characters are few but touch deeply. A great work of fiction that truly hit home for me.
How would you survive the end of the world? I hope I would fair well. I think the story is less about an apocalypse, and more about the love a father can have for his small son.
I just saw there was a movie made about it, and Im glad I read the book first. Hollywood tends to mess up books pretty well.
I will tell you an interesting feature of the book is that it has no chapters.
If you are looking for a thought provoking read by a pulitzer prize winning author, I highly recommend it.

He also wrote "No Country For Old Men" which they adapted to film.

And he has quite a few other novels.

I read "The Road" in the same week I read "Ghostwritten" by David Mitchell.

That was a great week of reading.

The movie isn't bad either but it's obviously different because most of the book is just the main characters thoughts.

While the book is a masterwork, the film is not half bad either. I think they succeeded in transferring the atmosphere of the book, and the destroyed and desolate world is very well realised. Viggo Mortensen acts great, as always, and so does the boy. The only thing I didn't like so much about the film compared to the book is that they play out many scenes with the mother. While that may be helpful to give some back story and explanation, especially for viewers that haven't read the book, I thought it switched the focus too much.
