The more I see of the renown system the more I agree that it is very flawed in its implementation.
I like the concept of a renown system (would have rather had some custom membership ranks) and feel it could be a very nice aspect to the game.
I see a lot of posts of people who are worried about the renown decay, however I think there is a much more serious problem - Membership decay. As more Mega-guilds continue to increase their GL rapidly and leave the other smaller guilds behind, we're going to see a lot of membership's shift over to them - just to get the benefits of a larger ship, and more amenities.
I realize that Turbine has a small guild 'bonus' that they are trying to implement, but I feel it wont be enough. Its already too little to late for many of the smaller guilds out there. Pretty soon, I expect you'll see a bunch of Guilds at rank 25 and stuck at that level with little hope of climbing up.
I dont have any solutions in mind, but this is a fairly deep concern of mine. As for the Ekke's we're a smaller guild and intend to stay that way, most of our current players feel comfortable with staying at what ever level we can obtain - GL isn't really representative of player quality - frankly we'd rather have 10-20 solid raid level players than 500 others.
The real impact is already being felt however - LFM's are on the decline making grouping more difficult. Older friends are being purged from Guilds because of the renown decay, and zerging to kill monsters is now the norm - fastest to kill has the best chance of gaining more renown....
Not really a rant here, nor is it a complaint, just some observations about something troublesome .....
I do feel sorry for the smaller guilds that will suffer heavy membership decay because of the 'attraction' to the mega-guilds....
