Default RANT: Yep i hate the Risia Ice Games

Ok, it was all fun and games when it first came out because it was new & shinny, but as time went by i realized that i really really really disliked them. I've never gone ice skating before so i can't speak to the level of realism, but i can say "The Risia Ice Games is not fun."

I kept my mouth shut though because i figured as soon as the season was over it would go away. But like a lingering cold it just keeps on coming back. You think you've got rid of it, you go outside into the harbour & BANG! Its back.

So now the chat logs are flooded with people swapping ice coins for recipes. Hey, heres an idea turbine. How about you come up with a mini-game that relies on player skill, rather then having a particular build, (wasting countless resources to fake having a particular build,) farming for hours & possibly including a special "seasonal chat screen" so the rest of us don't have to suffer through listening to people swamping normal chat with conversation about the freaking ice games.

Is it just me, or are there other people out there sick and tired of the freaking Risia Ice Games?

    -M

p.s your physics engine for ice skating really really REALLY sucks.

    I sort of hate it.

    1) Complete and utter grind-fest.
    2) More grind.
    3) Grinddddddddddddddddddddddddd.

    Reasons I like it.

    1) People will grind to make icy weapons, etc.
    2) I'll buy the weapon from those willing to grind for it.
    3) I can make an Eternal Wand of Frost. Not useful but I'm a sucker for Eternal wands.

The point is, if you don't like it, ignore it, if people spam the general chat trading for coins, don't use the general chat.
In case you didn't already notice, my posts that end with must NEVER EVER, under any circumstances, be taken seriously.

No, you're not alone. I dislike it alot too. I dislike the reuse of it. 3 times in 1 years a bit much. They could've come up with something new.

I have tried it and funny enough I thought the physics engine was odd too but i assumed that was just me as so many other people rave about how fantastic the event was i just figured i was a muppet who couldnt do it.

TBH I brought a kit last time it was around... was nice, sure, but i wont bother again.

Ill go with Ayum I think and just ignore it this time round.

They still haven't fixed many of the update 5 bugs, do you really want them implementing something new? If they did, we probably wouldnt have a ddo left to play!

agreed, but illogical. Yea update 5 is full of bugs... so if thats the concern then dont hold the ice games. I would rather they put something new out tbh. they wont fix these bugs in any short time so are we stuck with the ice games for all eternity? there will always be something that needs fixing.

    They should try multi tasking

Really people, how exactly does having ice games stop them from fixing bugs? All they have to do to have the ice games is press a button. How exactly this hinders them from bugfixing is beyond me.

Please people, stop the whining it doesn't make things go faster.

Uhm... build? Take any char, get a jump buff (house P or J) and house P fav pendant and you are all set.

you may be able to speed it up with abundant step or leap of faith, but that's hardly how it was intended. you can easily get a lot of puple coins without any special build or help from others

Let's compare this: Using abilities restricted to certain classes is "ok" because it "only" speeds things up.

    Right....

In other areas of the game "Just speeding things up" was a serious exploit and usually fixed quickly. There're plenty of examples but mentioning them here would probably get the post or the thread deleted. So the only difference is based on how little of an effect the ice games has on the game. That means that between those who are fast enough and those who are too lazy to farm for themselves and can't afford the inflated prices charged, guess who ends up winning all round?

    GOLD-FARMERS!!!

Simple way to retain the useful benefits of the games and to prevents the economy going insane again?

Make the recipes that drop BOA, therefore the burst kits still have their effects but economy remains stable and farmers have to work harder to ply their trade.

Funny you mention that... Those things work but feather fall does not. In fact if you use feather fall you hit an invisible wall before you reach the first coin.

Don't like it, don't play. It is OPTIONAL. If you are tired of the general chat spam, do what a lot of other people do and destroy the general chat tab.

Seriously? Plat farmers is your rant? I haven't gotten a plat-spam in MONTHS, on any character (and none of mine are anonymous).

As for abundant step being an exploit, it is hardly the fastest way to farm coins. I use to farm them on a ranger with jump + house P pendant, and would get them as fast or faster than the abundant steppers.

I don't like the Ice Games, I don't hate the Ice Games. They don't matter enough to me to care one way or the other. I just ignore them, and General Chat, and keep playing my game.

Same thing goes for Festivult (good lord, I've got tons of cookies just laying around from last time), and the Egg Hunt (ran it once just to see then deleted all tokens).

It doesnt take anything more in a build than this. If you are leveling a FvS or monk for this jump, you are working way too hard. If you are having issues with the big jump in the harbor, then there are a couple places you can jump off of quickly for a couple whites and a blue.

Some people are looking at this wrong.

If you don't like it, don't participate.

If you think they should program another type of event, instead of re-using one they already have invested time in creating...

...there is a long list of issues that need addressed first, and a longer list of people who would rather see those issues corrected before they dedicate resources to creating new events.

I have no issues with the Risia Ice Games as a game event.

The real issue is the Icy weapons. All Turbine really needs to do is put in an alternative (non-stacking) method of placing an elemental burst on a random weapon, and you'd see all the complaints about Risia Ice Games disappear.

    Default Ice?

Hey... Everybody knows it often freezes and snows in July!

it's just laggy all the time

that and the physics for the jumping environment are so random that sometimes I go flying past the landing pad after jump one, and other times I fall short. It would seem that parts of the tip of the jumping slopes are not fully covered with light gravity. (it seems more aggravating than before)
