How to end most trade spam

1) Make a convenient trade tool that everyone would much rather use than the current system. This tool would enable one to list many items and would automatically remove them from the list when they are sold or removed from inventory. Using something as simple as CTRL+ right click would separate the items out, without the need to intersperse *** or /// for legibility. Not everything would be bold white text: items and weapons would be colored based on type. It would allow one to set a price and would remember this price, which the user would have the option of displaying publicly or not. Best of all, the tool would have memory from one gaming session to the next.

2) Prohibit spamming with this tool, restricting sending out a wts with it to once every five minutes.

The fees from the AH are good for the economy, preventing inflation which would put items even farther out of reach from at-level new players than they are now.

Fees exist, and prices are stable over time. That part of the system is not broken.

There are good ways to encourage auction house use that would help the problem, such as allowing searching in it, or setting custom times for the auction, which would encourage me to list auctions other than around 3pm and 11pm east coast US time.

I removed trade spam by turning off the Trade Channel entirely.
Haven't missed it for one moment.

We already have an auction house, which is what it sounds like you are asking for. If someone is spamming trade, simply report them. GM response time to such issues is incredibly quick.

If the problem is in General Chat, right click the General Chat bar and set incoming message and uncheck Trade.

Right click on the name of the chat tab whose options you want to modify. Go to the option Set Incoming Text types and out of the menu make sure that trade doesn't have a check mark next to it.
