    Default Guild recrutment policies?

So i was just PuGing with my lowbie FvS and in one PuG 3 members were activly recruting for there guild, and not come run with us and we will see if you are a good fit but just "you want in let me know". Is this the new way of guild recrutment or was this just an odd ball group?

Also all three were offering plat/incentives for dropping guild and joining their's. This i find in very poor taste but not much i can do about that. So is this the new future of Guilds in DDO?

It used to be that guild leaders would hang out in the harbor and spam guild invites to anyone that showed up on the ship. This appears to be about a half-step above that tactic.

With that said, it might be a good way to farm plat. Drop Legion. Join GuildNE1. Receive Plat. Drop GuildNE1. Join Legion. Rinse and repeat for all toons.

Don't forget the part where you raid the chests in the their guild ship before dropping

I'm curious...exactly how much plat/what incentives were they offering? Exactly what is the going rate for becoming a renown merc?

Hey, if you want to drop your guild, join theirs, get plat, and then rejoin original guild, and your guild is ok with it, then so be it...they deserve to lose their plat for this kind of tactic, IMO.

I, myself, would never do such a thing. I believe in loyalty, both in-game and in RL, and I'd rather just tell them that there's nothing they can offer that would make me leave my guild. Plus, plat is too easy to come by, especially if you are in a guild with some people that have multiple capped toons.

    Unhappy Yeah...

One thing I did find disturbing is that the other night I ran with a few people from a guild that is currently at a high lvl. Between quests they were offered to come to our ship for buffs. They were amazed by the boat and told us they didn't realize they existed So it puzzled me that this particular guild hadn't told their members that there was an airship for them to utilize. And as the OP stated, these few just joined that guild and there were no policies in place. So it must be a trend.

they offered 5000 pp to drop and join them, but i just don't think i could get clean after doing something like that. I joined my guild because i met some friends and they invited me to join them. If it has just come down to who has the biggest ship then i may just have to start questioning certine guilds more when they hit my LFM's.

Good to know that i'm not the only one that thought this was a bit low.

Most self-respecting players and guilds would most likely find what happened to you as rather pathetic, but unfortunately in the current state of the game; expected.

It has gotten so much worse now that reknown is playing a factor.

Being the co-founder of Archangels, I was very suprised when I've had people from these guilds that have come out of no where all the sudden asking me if I would drop my guild to join theres because of their membership size, reknown, etc.

My response was less than positive in nature.

Apparently people find that it is better to be big and slightly useful, than cool, fun and very useful.

Gratz to you for showing class.

Best way to join a guild is wait for an invite from a guild member(s) after you have played with a few of them.

You can always just try a guild out blindly as well, I have actually gotten into some nice ones that way, just be wary and don't invest too much until u have been there a while.

Just thought I'd point out that Ministry has probably the best point so far:

Would you rather join Guild A or Guild B

Guild A: recruitment policies in effect, mainly to weed out those players that simply would not fit in the guild, but does not discriminate based on lack of knowledge, equipment, levels, or experience. Has multiple experienced members that actually want to help out newer players, and are more than happy to educate and equip those players, until they become experienced vets themselves. Overall, a fun and friendly atmosphere, but they won't be one of the first 20 guilds with access to an airship, as there are really only 30-50 or so active accounts.

Build B: Recruitment polict consists of "wanna join?", blind invites, and/or "I'll give you 5k plat to drop your guild and join ours. This guild will gain levels fast, as there are hundreds of active players all over the spectrum, however, many (possibly even a majority) of them have a "me-first" mercenary mentality, and will only group with you if they feel they need you for a quest, and will actually avoid you if they consider you a "noob", since they will not want that -10% from your screw-ups. (even though they screw up just as much, if not more) Majority of this guild does not have capped toons, so even if they wanted to, they cannot pass down tons of equipment or plat to help you as you progress, and there is much conflicting information in guild chat, so as to never give you an accurate idea of what works, or how to more efficiently complete certain quests. Tons of guild drama from many conflicting personalities. (which may be fun to read )

To sum up...there is much more to being in a guild than having the biggest airship, the highest level, and access to more (only slightly useful) buffs.
