Because its hard to name builds...
You want something memorable...
That hopefully tells you a bit about what the build is...
And because word play tends to come naturally to folks.
I groan at some of my own build names, others I really like.
It is true that a good build name will help you get more favorable responses to the build and a really boring one is more likely to be ignored entirely.

The build names are supposed to be fun and silly, it's a time-honoured tradition. I'm quite proud myself for naming my basic, vanilla DPS rogue build "Vanillah Killah".
Various hedge-wizards and halfwits, please see MyDDO for all your squelching needs
Lyrandar 2006 - Devourer 2007 - Thelanis 2009 - Ghallanda 2010
I happen to like my Warder, thank you very much! And happen to believe that it fits the build exactly, since, you know, he's as close to a Warder as i could get.

Seeing as most build names describe their capabilities I see no problem.
The problem comes when a someone without a 2006 join date tries to name a build and fails miserably. I've always put plain names on my builds for this reason, I get neg repped enough as it is.
I don’t think that’s the kind of name the OP was aiming at. Now, if you named the build “Ward Cleaver” then there could be a problem…
Things worthy of Standing Stone going EXTREME PREJUDICE™ on.:
- Epic and Legendary Mysterious ring upgrades, please.
- Change the stack size of filigree in the shared bank to 50. The 5 stack makes the shared bank worthless for storing filigree in a human usable manner.
- Fixing why I don't connect to the chat server for 5 minutes when I log into a game world.
- Fixing the wonky Lightning Sphere and Tactical Det firing by converting them to use alchemist spell arcing.
- Redoing the drop rates of tomes in generic and raid loot tables.
Maybe I should have gone with Waden, that way, I could have at least gone for some S&M allusion that the OP talks about.
