I don't have a zerging problem.
I'm zerging. That's YOUR problem.
Firewall : Arcane :: Improved Crit : Melee
You can be "ok" without it, but there is simply no reason not to (ab)use it.

I am working on leveling up an acid/electricity sorcerer just for fun to use some of the spells I normally wouldn't use otherwise. But I still take wall of fire.![]()
Sometimes. If you're fighting mindless undead, or have a good enough DC vs intelligent undead.
Firewall makes fighting Sor'Jek in SoS much easier. Halt undead's not going to work at all.
Firewall is great in epics, undead quest or not.
If you're a wizard, carry both for undead quests; if you're a Sorc, you'll be fine sticking with firewall.
Firewall is the most overrated spell in DDO by far. It's great for soloing, but its effectiveness diminishes exponentially the more people you have in the group. In my opinion, a sorcerer with lots of crowd control is more useful in a group than a sorcerer that relies on spamming firewall.
A sorcerer that relies only on firewall is like a fat cat (with four legs) trying to run a marathon. He'll get started pretty quickly, but then fade out fast.

Why am I a disgruntled vet? I could care less about nerfs, if the rest of the update worked.
I hate epic, GSF !="generalist wizard", and my raid loot luck still *'in sucks.
Really? In my experience there are more morons that don't know how to use firewall then morons that don't know how to use crowd control. It's generally easier to explain to a melee not to hit the mobs with notes over there heads than it is to explain to a firewall-happy sorcerer that standing in a firewall swinging your melee weapons doesn't help kill the ranged attackers and spell casters you're up against and meleeing in a firewall is definitely not the best way to kill an iron golem.
Maybe it's just that the sorcerers I run into are all played by the dumbest morons in the game, but in most full-group situations I've seen crowd control is at least as efficient, if not far more so, than firewall.
The true effectiveness of firewall comes from the fact that it's a persistent AoE damager - the fact that it's fire and does double damage to undead and there are so many quests (particularly in the level 7 - 10 range, where firewall is at or near the top level you can cast) make it great. The more DPS other than the caster in the group, the less efficient firewall becomes - firewall doesn't do anything when it's burning in a cleared out room. If you have enough DPS to kill all of the mobs in a dungeon room within the duration of a single crowd control effect that can hold them all then the mobs don't even get to hit back like they do when you fight from a firewall.
No, it's ****. Take Fire Trap instead. Man, they need to nerf that thing. It can do up to 24 damage at 20th level. Crazy good.
(Edit: I think I am going to memorize fire trap on my wizard and cast it, just to see if the devs actually implemented the spell, or if it just throws up a dialog that says "Congratulations! You are the first person to ever cast this spell!")
