    Dwarf 19 Cleric / 1 Ranger

Take Ranger at lvl 1, 18 wisdom, 16 str, 16 con, dump the rest. Level ups into Wisdom. Make yourself a +3 Wisdom Min2 D-Axe.

    Done.

I would forget about AC and start first lvl fighter to end as a 19/1 clr/fighter. Max intimidate and defend by shield blocking.

It works great now with the healing aura on you.

You're a Cleric that can fight, not a fighter than can heal. You play a character like this as an offensive caster. With the lvl in Ranger you won't lose spell points and you need as many spell points as you can get.

Feats: Maximize, Empower, Extend, Heighten, Quicken, Toughness, Empower Heal.

why ranger over fighter and vice versa?

I have been looking for a build to play dwarves myself, but everything seems like there not really optimal for anymore, which is funny because at launch they were like the master race.

This doesn't really work. You won't be able to reach a high enough AC. Fighter will get you Tower Shields and Dwarven axes. And if they ever add the dwarven Stalwart line, you might even have a decent AC through Gianthold. But you're going to need Combat Expertise and Dodge and the Stat requirements will really hurt. That doesn't even bring up that casting while using CE costs double SP or that you also need Str to actually be able to fight.

If you're going to go Battle Cleric, 2 Fighter, 2 Paladin or 2 Monk is the way to go. And in that case you're better of with a two hander or wraps(for the Monk) in the long term.

    Combat Expertise:

The stat requirement for Combat Expertise can be pain without tome, but if you got one already, or even work out with TR, then INT requirement shouldn't make a serious problem ( start with 11 if you didn't have +3 INT tome at bank, since you don't really need Combat Expertise at level 1 )

New change (Update5) of Combat Expertise can be painful to get use with, but that's not a big deal once you can work out with it -- to be honest, we even survive while Combat Expertist would lock your spell casting ability for 30 sec once you turn it on.

    Dodge:

You can use the Dodge AC gear, but certainly not the Dodge feat. It's simply cost too much and gain too little.

    Strength

Strength is never been an issue if you build a battle cleric with sufficient strength to start with, and put every level up point into Strength.

SnB Dwarven battle cleric is probably not the best DPS or AC character you could have, but it's still visible -- you can still wielding Two hander weapon when you need some decent DPS, but have AC/blocking DR when the situation call.

    1 lvl of Ranger for:
-No loss of SP at creation
    -One Favored Enemy
    -Martial Weapon Prof.
    -SPRINT BOOST!!!!

Forget Tower shield because you'll want the Light and Dark Shield from Inspired Quarter (go true neutral for alignment). If you want kickin blade barriers (which you mentioned you did) then you'll have to max wisdom and put your lvl ups into Wisdom for your DC's. You'll do more dmg with your cleric spells than you will melee. The 1 ranger gives you just the right amount of melee capabilities.

I ran a 19/1 ranger for a while and the survivability was incredibly high, plus sprinting to weary adventurers crying for a heal saved many people while lvling.
