“ The call to walk the middle path is rarely
heard over the shouting of extremists” - Angel Barchild
There are so many differences between people, the culture they come from, what they hope for, what they dream of, and... how they play games. We have all focused so completely on the differences between each other lately, it has brought anger and frustration to every corner of Khyber.
I am the leader of a tiny guild of people that all know each other in real life. I have no stake in the Vet Vs New Player argument and whoever is right or wrong seems a matter of perspective rather than one of empirical evidence anyway.
All those who play do so for the love of gaming. They are sitting at a computer choosing to spend their time and possibly their money, they, in that regard, are the same as everyone else.
The root of the recent division is hidden within the expectation that others will see things as we see them ourselves. We have expected that experience would be awarded over sheer numbers, we thought that other players would would want our advice about how to be the most efficient by the numbers, and, we reasoned that the organization of guilds would continue in the same general fashion that it had been.
The expectations that we have were wrong. There has been a fundamental shift in guild mechanics. There is no going back now. So instead of concerning ourselves with others constantly, and taking a “The sky is falling” approach to how we react to this change lets do something different.
Keep playing, just as you always have. If you had an expectation that a cat would purr when you petted it (because it always has) and instead it barked and wagged it's tail you would be very surprised. Eventually though, you would just have to give up and say “ well, I guess I have a strange (possibly mutant) cat.” and move on. The point is, the cat is no less than it was before.
Be better than this to each other.
