Default Does shield blocking generate aggro?

I've heard people say that you should not shield block when you are door blocking to keep an enemy from getting to the target that they are actually trying to attack. This usually involves letting one person get aggro against a monster that has no ranged attacks while a few other people use their bodies to keep the monster from getting within melee range of the target. This works well against Maruts, against the Kobold lietuenant in the Shroud and against a few other specific enemies throughout the game.

I understand telling people to stop shield bashing because you don't want them to generate aggro, but does shield blocking actually do anything to attract a mob's attention? Is there more to this than a"diplomacy on the chest" type of urban legend?

    It's not an urban legend...

    It's an old wives tale!

To whomever told you this, tell him/her to stop being such a silly old wife.

I've heard this same thing. I don't know if it's a myth, but when I'm level 8, and my rogue is all that's between a giant Marut and the caster, I'm not about to figure it out.

I'm not 100% sure but it seem like if you actively block the Elemental in Part 5 of the Shroud he will decide to attack you rather than just struggling in vain to get loose and after the puller.

2 ways in which aggro is generated:

    * DPS - modified by certain hate / subtle backstabbing items / enhancements

    * Intimidate (for 6 secs) - overrides DPS hate till its over.

The rest is fairy tales, misinformation or malevolent lies told to newbies. (Diplo the chest for better loot, anyone....)
Erzskalde (Warchanter) / Erzassassin (just passing through - ignore me) / Erzsoldat (waiting for TR-time) / Erzschmied (ranged Artificer)
