Default Any suggestions to increase HP?

    Hello everyone ...

I've been playing DDO for a few months now and my main is a 15th level 28-point Human Paladin (my first toon) that started off on the Flame of Justice path. Stopped following the path between 7th-9th level though. His stats are as follows (got these off my.ddo.com):

    (starting / current)
    STR 16 / 26
    DEX 10 / 16
    CON 10 / 18
    INT 8 / 13
    WIS 12 / 18
    CHA 16 / 26

    HP 267
    SP 323

    AC 29+2
    Fort 100%

Ate a +2 Supreme Tome a few months ago (that's +2 to all stats) plus I have a +6 CON item. No False Life item nor do I have a Minos Legens at the moment (I hope to get that sometime soon). Haven't gotten around to even starting work on a Greensteel item, so have no idea what that'll bring to the plate.

I took at least one Toughness feat (swapped it with Cleave via Fred) but since Paladins are feat-deprived, not really sure if I can afford to take another Toughness feat. Am a THFer right now, but sometimes use TWF for effect procs. Still waiting for the final word on Update 5, so have been laying off DDO for a while.

I was toying with the idea of a Greater Resurrection since I have access to 32 point builds, which should allow me to bump up my CON to around 14-16. My understanding is that this will net me around 60 extra HP at 20th level, which does not seem to be enough.

I'm hoping to get to at least 400-500HP (standing, without buffs), while staying a Pure Human Paladin. No plans to use a shield, though. Not sure if this is possible, though. Any suggestions on how to beef up my HP would be appreciated.

Since its just 247 hp with what you provided for information, I am going to assume you have 2 toughness enhancements, yes?

SO that would make 267... 5 lvls to go for 20.... 15 hp per lvl (10 base, 1 toughness, 4 con mod)

    So...

    267 base
    020 minos
    045 shroud
    010 agents of argo favor
    075 next 5 lvls
    030 greater false life

    447

32 point build with greater reincarnate and making it 14 con instead of 10...

    447
040 bonus con if all 4 points into con, which is highly suggested

    487

Now take 2 more toughness enhancements and voila! you have 507! (toughness enhancements are 10 hp apiece)

There is your 500, the shroud item will be the hardest to get, so you may have to suffer at a 462 for a bit.

    Anyways, theres your answer

Bring your base Con somewhere in the range 14-16; I like 15 for human characters: since you need +1 Con from Human (Greater) Adaptability enhancements in order to unlock Toughness III racial enhancement, that would bringing you Con score to an even number.

One Toughness feat is enough, but you need to pick also its class and racial enhancements in order to maximize its effects. Theoretically, human paladins can get 70 more hp from racial and class Toughness enhancements, but upper tiers are quite expensive; I recommend you get at least 40-50 hp from those, depending on availability of Action Points.

Gear is important: Greater False Life item (30 hp), Toughness items such as Mino's Legend (20 hp), greensteel item (up to 45 hp), exceptional Constitution item (up to +3 Con) can easily provide 100ish hp.

Fully geared, 500ish hp should be achievable.

As a side note: you can also consider dropping Wisdom to 10, gaining 2 more build points.
On Thelanis: Hallelujah (EK wraith) - Jerryrigged Juggernaut (Fiend Warlock) - Sepulchral (Druid) - Chopchopchop (Monk) - Alleyshadow (retired gimped monkcher). Formerly on Keeper : Misericordia (Thug) - Mumbo Jumbo (Battle Caster) - Infernal Can (WF Kinda Cleric) - Halleluyah (Melee Spellsinger).

If you are lring or gring drop starting wis to 8 and gain 4 build points, as you see, your wis is more than enough already to cast lvl 4 spells, and the extra points just give you some few spell points and will save, if you are just lring put them into con, if you are gring, you can get more str or cha with them...
Other than that what epoch said, gfl items, and minos legens are easy to get, shroud is a little harder, but the good news is that you dont need to craft weapons, so you can put all your ingredients into crafting an hp item.

You can get a greensteel with +45 hp and + 6 WIS - that would allow you to move several build points to CON-

Even if you used a single shard item, you would be very happy...

You get the + 6 WIS on the second tier - shouldn't be too hard to do.

Default Thanks for the quick replies!

    Wow ... that was fast!

507 HP (thanks epoch!) sounds like a healthy number. I'm hoping that'll give me enough points to prevent getting one-shotted in the upcoming quests.

Seems like the Greensteel item will provide a big boost to HP. Any idea how many runs it usually takes to grind out an item? Plus do any of you have suggestions on what item I should craft, e.g. googles, cloak, bracers ... so that it does not conflict with some other desirable Paladin gear like Lorinthor's Belt and Ring? I've taken the Knight of the Chalice PRE and would like to further improve my DPS with the Lorinthor set.

On the Greater Resurrection, part of the plan (as suggested by Rusty_Can) is to reduce the points allotted to WIS to just be able to hit 14 (to cast Zeal etc), so that I can put more into CON. Got most of my Paladin info from Junts' very useful Paladin guide, but thanks for mentioning it again as a reminder.

Thanks again for the quick replies. Really appreciate the advice.

Cloak and bracers are the best slots for dps paladins i think.
You want googles from vod, minos legens in head, neck and belt are for tod sets, spectral gloves, and switchable boots.
A tier 3 single shard gs item uses 12 large ingredients, at 1.5 larges for shroud completions, if you are lucky with your larges in about 10 shrouds you could have the item, but you can craft part 1 and 2 first that you get earlier and get partial benefits... you should plan well your gs items, plan for 2 complementing items i think. Maybe one single shard and a one double shard.

Default Con Opp item a good idea?

Thanks for the suggestions, Gercho and Propane!

Was thinking of crafting a Concordant Opposition item (Bracers perhaps?). Will that be ideal or should I consider something else? Am still in the inventory and item planning stage at the moment, so want to start figuring out what I would like to have when I hit 20th level.

Would crafting a guard item (Acid, Earthgrab etc) be worth the effort? Not sure right now if that can be combined with Con Opp on one item.

Depending on your gear... the hound +6STR + healing amp are pretty nice as well...
It is a good idea to leave the boot slot open for hot swaps...

We could spend days talking about gear... I would do the research and fiqure out what gear you want to work towards before starting the green steel (I would be a pain to have to make another item). Maybe something like...
Going for Concordant Oppp maybe overkill - you could go bothways... you can get the last 20hp without going double shard...

Some of the guards are nice - Air - Air - Air (googles?) works nice for UMD/casting pallies - UMD boost - spell points - haste
Earth grap guard is nice as well. Both of these are "cheap" needing only 1 large shard.

I would look at googles / cloak / gloves.... make a plan (see below) and go for it!

    Helm: Minos helm
    Necklace: + 6 wis --> Shroud N/P/P +6 Wis / 45 Hp (Concordant Opposition??) (2nd)
    Trinket: HoGF, Mbat, Bloodstone
    Cloak: Resis + 2 CHR + 6
Belt: Proof against Poison with Greater False life
    Ring#1:Con +6
    Gloves:
Boots: Striding 30%, Dex +6 / Solid Fog Clicky / etc
    Ring#2:
    Bracers: STR + 6 -->Levik's Bracers (+6 str +20% incoming healing)
Armor: BrestPlate of Defender (Destruction, protection +4)
    Goggles:
    Shield: +5 / Madstone / Levik’s

    Default Lorinthor Set

    Thanks for the list, Propane!

Followed your suggestion and did a little more research ... I came across a post by Seelowe in the following thread ( Post #7 in http://forums.ddo.com/showthread.php?t=241668 ) and it was interesting to compare your list to his (slightly edited for readability) ...

    HEAD: minos legens

NECKLACE: GS (+45hp, +6 wisdom, concordant opposition)

    CLOAK: bard's cloak (+6cha)

BELT: lorinthor's belt (+6con, heightened awareness, knight of the chalice set)

RING 1: lorinthor's ring (+6str, +3 exceptional cha, knight of the chalice set)

    RING 2: swapping between
< 1. seal of the earth (natural ac+3, 10 acid resistance, stoneskin 3/rest)
< 2. chattering ring (ac dodge bonus +3)
    < 3. haste ring

    BOOTS: swapping between
< A. striding boots 30% of whatever I need at the time (balance or jump)
< B. featherfalling boots of whatever I need at the time (balance or jump)
    < C. madstone boots

    GLOVES: swapping between
    < I. titan's grip (+6str clickie)
    < II. dexterous gloves (+6dex)
    < III. bramblecasters
    < IV. spectral gloves

    ARMOR: swapping between
    < α. icy raiment
    < β. dt armor +5resistance, +20%healing amp, radiance guard
< γ. cloth of the faithful (wizardry VI /nightshield clickie)

    BRACERS: swapping between -
    < tharne's bracers (+6 dex, +6 AC, tharne's set)
    < +8 AC bracers

GOGGLES: tharne's goggles (sneak attack +5, true seeing, tharne's set)

    TRINKET: swapping between
    < head of good fortune
    < shimmering arrowhead
    < bloodstone

Your list seems to be more reasonable, though. ... Don't want to spend all my time trying to squeeze out every single bit of uberness from my toon. Just want to have a decent setup that'll be fun to play.

I guess I already know what to do now, just need to get back in the game and start questing for these items. Thanks again to all who responded! Much appreciated.

Agreeded - a lot of that loot is for high ac builds - not a good match for this build....

You are getting into one of the fun parts of the game - charactor building with matching equipment... I personally like this aspect of the game - lots of different combos - lots of fun

The loot you can get from the shroud, hound, reaver raid, vod should be good for you build and these raids are easy to get into... some of the others (Titan etc) are not.

Cloak - no need for the bards cloak - +6 chr will be fine

Belt - you should be able to find a greater false life of poison resist on AH - upgrade to +6 con / GFL in amrath

Armor - that is alot of grinding... DT might be nice - Icy - not so much - look at the VOD plate

    Good luck!
