There is something seriously wrong with creating a User name

I needed some more bank space, so I tried to set up a new free account.

After dozens of increasingly varied name combos of Riggs, I started punching in random numbers, letters, words, mashing the keyboard at random until the characters stopped...and every single time I got the message "That use name is already in use"

That would basically be impossible unless plat farmers have somehow set up billions of free accounts already, or just my sheer luck was to punch in the exact user names of dozens of random characters and match every single time to someone else's random button mashing. I didnt count the length, but it was around 15 characters or more, and the odds of getting exact matches every single time is more than people exist on the planet.

So either the system is broken badly, or Turbine needs to find out who has somehow auto generated billions of free user names that obviously cannot be valid people.

Wow. 10,000 monkeys randomly mashing keys may actually be able to write the accumulated works of Shakespeare. I always thought it was a myth.

At the time I was trying, I also had trouble logging into the forums for at least 10 minutes or so, and when I finally did the forums had forgotten my username and password and i had to reenter them.

So it could be possible there was a service issue where everything was blocked - but since I had no trouble getting to the 'create account' page I doubt it.

Also - at the same time in game there was three characters standing at the mailbox for at least an hour, level 1 barbarians with names like jsdjgjdfgxxvssx, jgfsdhgfxxssssf etc. So I suspect there maybe a lot of randomly generated usernames floating around...but really anything with just random button mashings and is inactive for any real length should be deleted...

We are aware that some players may experience issues when trying to create a DDO account, as noted in this sticky. This can happen if you're if you're re-using an email, or for many other reasons, which is why there is a work-around posted.
