    Default Dear DDO: Civilized Sheathing

Stormreach feels like a pretty hostile place with all the adventurers running about in the market, weapons at the ready to carve out the cheapest deal they can.

The /sheathe option already exists, but currently just makes the weapon disappear into some mystical katana-space, most likely that bag of holding the Coin Lords like handing out. Consider the difference if instead the weapons were actually visibly sheathed on characters (perhaps a bit more of a challenge for those greataxe wielding halflings). The artwork is already there, it's just a matter of attaching the weapon at a different point on the character model (back for crossbows, bows, two-handed weapons and waist for longswords, maces, daggers, one-handed weapons). Entering town or any peaceable area could also initiate a /sheathe as a courtesy (and a sign of civilized behavior). The more aggressive types could draw their weapon again with a simple swing or two.

It's not a feature change that's going to get alot of excitement, but it would certainly make Stormreach feel like a safer place rather than an army camp on the brink battle.

Better watch what you say or the marketplace might start spawning portals with devils streaming out of them again. Shame I wasn't around when that occurred.

Those devils must have been steaming mad when they realized their portals didn't land them at the annual Shavarath Soiree.

actually, the animation and art assets are, for the most part, already there to have "shown sheathing" as it were, just watch the animations when you build a character and see them pull the greatsword from their back....

i'm for it. i used to run around stormreach with my weapons sheathed.
unfortunately every time you change instances, there they are again. /sheathe
i got tired of doing it and now just run around like everyone else. weapons out
    and ignored.

That brings up another good point. I hate trying to click a merchant and end up stabbing them instead. I'm pretty sure I get penalties to my Haggle for that.

Good observation. I'll have to play around with that using different weapon types just for curiosity's sake.

Well on the other side after you stabbed him, maybe you can use your Intimidate instead!

Issue has been noted before and the answer is that the added art work and animation would be prohibitively expensive.....also a dev note stated that they tried and the sheathing was not attractive.

Good idea! Merchanting is a hard life.
