    Default New to DDO

    Hey peeps,

New to DDO long term P&P fan. Was looking for the best set up for a (predominatly Rogue) based character to build and solo level, I like to be able to explore all content including behind all locked doors and chests

Obviously looking towards an assassin spec as well so I can do some damage and solo as much content as possible.

I'm up for a challenge and I know it would be alot easier leveling a warrior but I hate having to become a trap springer just to access some areas.

Anywho any tips are welcome, I was also wondering endgame whats the best thing to bring along, I read alot in the forums about a Strenght based assassin for top DPS spec to bring to endgame and it sounds like there is no real supporting role for a rogue elite/endgame, so my other challenging Question is it possible to level as a spec that will do well endgame? respec to a more decent endgame build? or is it True Reincarnation the only option?

    Thanks for any help

Indeed there's a variety of builds to have a rogue with endgame dps, soloing ability or good trapfinding, altough hardly possible to have all three at the same time.
Like in PnP there's no one man party, nor there's one build to rule them all.

Fortunately not too much content behind locks so the dps rogue has that advantage beside the demand of dps endgame.
On the other hand the trapmonkeys just got a new powertoy in trapmaking, so perhaps the mechanic build can compensate this way.

As for respecing there's the lesser reincarnation available, so no need to wait for lv 20 to respec.

If you really want to solo without a blocking hireling, you'll lose some damage, because the sneak attack damage won't be applied to monsters which are attacking you. (I think a ranger with a Rogue splash would be a better build if you are aiming for self-sufficiency, melee damage and some traps. But this is only a side note and playing a pure Rogue is fine, too.)

There are three Prestige Enhancements ("PrEs"): Thief-Acrobat, Mechanic, Assassin. All three have their benefits and none has any Stat or Feat Prerequisites. So you can change these without needing a respec from Fred or even a LR or TR.

My advice for a pure Rogue is the following: Start you character as a Str-based, two-weapon-fighting pure Rogue, get enough Int to max Disable Device, Search, Spot, UMD, Diplomacy, maybe Balance, maybe Haggle, maybe Open Locks. Don't be too squishy (i.e. better take 14 Con than 12 Con). Start with 16 Dex (so you only need a +1 Tome to qualify for GTWF). This should be more or less doable with any starting race, Drow and Human being the best choices. (The 16 Str/16 Dex split is only a personal preference, but being Str-based helps your damage when you are soloing.)

That way, you are the same good trap monkey as any toon with a rogue splash. If you want, you can even take the PrE Mechanic in order to get an edge over those. Later, you can switch to the Assassin PrE. Take the Capstone Deadly Shadow for more Sneak Attack Dice.
