Thread: Renown and Epic

    Default Renown and Epic

re·nown (r-noun)n.1. The quality of being widely honored and acclaimed; fame.
I find it exceedingly strange that Renown, in terms of the game world as introduced by the developers, supposed to represent the fame achieved by an individual, is so random. If the Tasks of Hercules were to have been conducted in DDO, he would have been a relative no-body and never achieved immortality, or an airship.
Finish 12 Epic Raids, then check Renown: low-moderate.

Run a lvl 4 thru 12 harbour quests, then check renown: Very high.
So, killing a whole bunch of kobolds is more worthy of fame than killing a Red dragon?

Please examine the idea of a guaranteed Renown drop for completing epic dungeons and raids. Even regular raids should drop more renown than regular quests.

How about the warded chest drops, in addition to the loot a guaranteed allotment of renown:

    Raid: 100 renown
    Epic Dungeon: 500 renown
    Epic Raid: 1000 renown.

As long as it's in the end-chest, and not just epic chests in general

It is like going to a museum and bragging about how fast you made it through. Or bragging about how fast you finished a good steak.

I completely agree, it is ridiculous how random the drop rates are. I spent an entire day raiding all of my end-game toons, for a handful of renown. then I took one of my newly created lvl 4's through haverdasher elite because I heard it had a good drop rate.

Unfortunately, this was true. haverdasher was more efficient for farming renown then doing a vision of destruction elite (which gave me 50 points for my end reward)

EDIT: also heard that there is a better renown rate doing quests while under the level. so I also tested this theory with an elite shadow crypt while dual-boxing lvl 4 wizards, and a friend at lvl 7. completed it with no trouble, and got roughly 300 renown in 2 runs between both toons - lvl 11 elite quest on lvl 4 toons, uneffective.

I decided to run through Irestone a few times to gather a few festivault coins. I was doing the quest on elite with my lvl 20 sorc, low and behold Heroic Deeds were dropping in the quest alongside the masterwork docent and my copper coins.

I got just under 1000 renown in 3 runs, about 12 min worth of play. No danger, no difficulty but renown dropped none the less.

Later last night I ran all of the +3 tome raids, Reaver elite, rest normal, so lvl 16-18 quests. I once again got just under 1000 renown, about 2 hours worth of play.

Farming renown in harbor quests with high level characters is not very 'Heroic', 'Impressive' or 'Legendary', though it seems to be more effective.

I want to be known for my deeds, not my loot luck!

The Orkin Man has a lot of renown, and he just kills insects and vermin.

The first guild to get an airship was a fairly small one (around 25 people?) who said they got most of theirs from epics and raids.

It's small and subtle - not something noticable unless you're collecting results. There is a similar bonus for epic quests, which could just be them tagged as level 21 or whatever. Not enough samples yet to be confident on a %.

No differences between casual or hard though from what I can tell. If anyone else is collecting a big pile of numbers send me a PM, I'd love to compare

    Cool

Agreed but if I'm in an epic DQ and I have to choose between 1k Renown and a Greenblade I'm getting my Greenblade 1st!

As a member of the guild to get the 2nd airship, i can tell you it is all about chest opened... and not about quests completed. This is entirely contradictory to the IDEA of renown. Renown should be gained most by heroic deeds--not by opening chests.

Running lowbie content at level, or running Shroud 1-4 farming seem to be the biggest renown sources at the moment.

Who would be held in higher esteem in Stormreach - a crew of adventurers that killed a few kobolds that porbably couldn't even have gotten over the walls into the keep, a band of heroes that almost bested Arraetrikos in the Shroud before all retreating through a D-Door, allowing Harry to resurrect so they can try again, or the legendary heroes that kill the Black Abbot, First General Horoth, his sidekick Suulomades, and his pet dog Xy'zzy?
    I don't have a zerging problem.

    I'm zerging. That's YOUR problem.

Lvl 11 Ranger, Tempest Spine elite - 1600 renown
    Lvl 20 Sorc, Reaver's Fate elite - 50 renown.

They should scaled renown by quest level.

/signed. Also add some scaling bonuses. A huge guild running harbor quests shouldn't have more renown than a small-medium guild running epics.

Either that, or its time for type of renown...i.e. "Slayer of Kobolds" or "Epic Raiders" etc, depending on where your renown comes from.
Thanks for the long time forum user purge of Aug '10 (Sarcasm for those who don't get it)

Ah, have an achievement system? A bit like favor, actually; once you have the 1500 Renown (or whatever) for the Slayer of Kobolds achievement, you can't get it again, just as the favor from The Butcher's Path can be added once and only once to your total. That could be interesting.

Been horsing around soloing with a few experimental alts lately (because inflicting the notions while working out the kinks would be uncool), and did notice it seems the 5 renown you get for killing mobs goes up to 15 for red-names, or at least the lowbie ones. It's tough to notice though unless you're looking for it, particularly since that only occurs when you both kill a redname and proc the chance for renown... Maybe something could be done there. Particularly by way of incentivising optionals, like making that non-random? Just putting that out there.

I thought it was rather obvious why the system works like it does...
Same reason we haven't had a new endgame raid since DDO:EU launched.

Turbine knows that they can kick us vets as much as they want and we're still too **** stubborn to leave.

Why am I a disgruntled vet? I could care less about nerfs, if the rest of the update worked.
I hate epic, GSF !="generalist wizard", and my raid loot luck still *'in sucks.
