    Default Elitism.....or is it?

I keep seeing the word "elitist" being thrown around a lot nowadays. From all of the different contexts it's been used, I gather that you are an elitist if:

    1. You have quest/game knowledge and use it.
    2. You filter out players when forming a group.
    3. You use the word noob.
    4. You think MyDDO is a benefit to the game.
    5. You don't suck.
    6. You have expectations from puggers.
    7. Your in a guild that is able to complete difficult achievments that other guilds cannot.
    8. You don't suck.
    9. You have grinded quests to get specific loot.
    10. You get upset with NOOBS not listening to clear directions and let them know.

    That is all. Maybe.

That's to be expected from the WoW crowd. I have played WoW to level 80 so I know that many people do not listen to you, even if you are the group leader. The only exception is guild runs, because you will get kicked or at least never invited to a guild run again if you refuse to listen.

Also, there are a lot of kids playing WoW. Most of them will be immature and call you a "noob" or "f4gg0t" if you try to tell them how to run a quest efficiently.

    You forgot:

    - You don't whine and stomp your feet and threaten to leave the game each time
an Update is published, you simply play the game and have fun.

    Yikes, I might be Elitist.

That is the opposite of elitest... Believe me, the casual players weren't the ones stomping their feet and crying DOOOOOOMMMM

There are good players and there are uber-leet powergamers...

I used the world elitest to describe ARROGANT players... Yes, most of them are also good, but many of them have forgotten what it is to be new... Many of them do not teach, but fly into rages when newbs don't immediately know what to do...

Also many of them take this GAME way too seriously... They really think they are pure awesome because they can sit their ass in a chair and pound on a keyboard for hours and hours and hours.

Those are the "elites" that I do not like... which may not describe anyone in this thread...

The OPs list sounds like just a good player... (Although I'm not too keen on the myDDO stuff and excluding players, I don't view that as a total negative).

I put same 3 tings in my lfm when im on any class doing any quest

Bring your own healing, Know your way, No neg10xp

Yet about 75% of the time the random puggers failes atleast 2 of the 3 and when they get called out on it

    They yell "Elitest"

If getting things done is a elitest then guilty as charged.

i may not be elite or even an elitist, but for the most part, i fit that list.. with the exception of hating myddo (worst addition ever conceived..)

i cant stand pugging because no one listens... you blatantly tell the caster to "wait here, i will pull everything, spam firewalls when im back in view"

or when you say "dont touch that alter, it will spawn such and such before we prep"

or some jack off just doesn't realize that the spinning blade thing sitting right in front of his face WILL KILL HIM

Some people stand in traps if they have a high reflex save just for fun, but anyone with a low reflex save and low hp doing that is stupid.

This happened to me in Threnal Elite a couple days ago. A rogue was bragging about his evasion and having fire resistance so he didn't have to listen to the star about not walking on the grates. Of course he walks on to the grate and gets hit once to bring his hp down to just a sliver. He laughs and says "well everyone rolls a 1 sometimes, can I get a heal" to the FVS (me). I opened the trade window, gave him 500 plat and told him to buy some pots if he wanted to show off his 1337 sk1llz'.

Yes I healed him eventually, but not before making him sit out a few rounds of combat. (There was no threat of losing the 10% as he had already died trying to solo the out of the way oozes with his new shiny muckbane he got by "totally ripping off some n00b")

Moral of the story to the non-elitists (aka f2p), Con is important despite your totally awesome 20 dex build and Hubris is a ***** and she has a long memory.

I think you're mixing terms a bit in your definitions. There is certainly a distinct difference between being "elite" and being an "elitist". You can be elite and not an elitist. You can be an elitist yet not elite. You can be both or you can be neither.

    Elite:
    1. You have quest/game knowledge and use it.

    5. You don't suck.

    7. Your in a guild that is able to complete difficult achievments that other guilds cannot.
    8. You don't suck.
    9. You have grinded quests to get specific loot.

    Elitist:

    2. You filter out players when forming a group.
    3. You use the word noob.
    4. You think MyDDO is a benefit to the game.

    6. You have expectations from puggers.

    10. You get upset with NOOBS not listening to clear directions and let them know.

Good post. Yes, elite means excellent to me, elitest means you look down on people not as good as you.

    This.

And notice that Ren didn't qualify any of the two as "good" or "bad".

Some people want to be elite, nothing wrong with this, that's how they choose to enjoy the game.

Some people people have different standards of which people they choose to group with. Again, nothing wrong with this, you are free to choose. If said people choose not to group with you, just move on.

The problem might arise when you want to group with them, but they don't want to group with you. Then some people choose to create drama on the forums about "elitist jerks". Again, nothing wrong with this, some good old forum drama is good for the soul.

    3. You use the word noob all to often for various reasons without a notion as to why.
    4. You think MyDDO is a benefit to the game because you can scan to see if that person has all the items that are required by your thought process to make up a good character.
    5. You don't suck in your mind because your uber.
    6. You have expectations from puggers to play above and beyond even when they state that its their first time and are unfamiliar to your tactics as you zerg off.
    7. Your in a guild that is able to complete difficult achievments that other guilds cannot which doesnt make you an elitist but rather a well rounded and organized group
    8. You don't suck, again stated because elitist really dotn have ten items to describe elitist ways.
    9. You have grinded quests to get specific loot and then brag about it over and over and over and over and over and......
    10. You get upset with NOOBS not listening to clear directions and let them know that even though your were directing them in sign language they shoudl have telepathic powers..

Again, you should point out that you're talking about elite raids and epic... That's an important qualifier... If you use myDDO to screen for Stormcleave or Ritual Sacrifice, etc. then you are not very elite..

Elitism just is when people judge others or look down on others for not being elite. You can be elite and not be an elitist.

Although, I confess. I am an Elitist.

    ps: myDDO is awesome.

What if your TR8 trying to get completionsit and dont want to solo but also dont want neg10xp every time u do a Stormcleave or Ritual Sacrifice. That mean you still suck for not wanting neg10xp from the guy that has 105 hp and no hvy forst at lvl 14?

I would suggest that you don't PUG if you get mad if someone dies.

I have TR guys, I take the first 5 that want to come along, and I deal with occasionally (probably 20% of the time) losing the 10% due to someone dieing...

However, your point is valid... I guess it depends on how you decline them... Also, I would change your LFM... That "no -10% xp" isn't very clear... I would change it to "no deaths" so people know you will not tolerate anyone rolling a 1...
