    Default Warforged 50% off

This Sunday the WF race is on sale @ 298TPs. I have been wondering if this race is worth getting, since this isn't really an essential "must-have" on my list. Especially since I have always found this race a little disturbing - the Iron Man look, with the Spiderman animation when you throw a spell is... just... so... odd. I also don't remember D&D having such a cyborg race. This is D&D, not superheroes, right?

Having said that, it seems like the WF is a very useful solo race. What strikes particularly is its apparent immunity to hold spells (#1 killer for soloists, I think), as well as tons others. And swim? Oh yes, I have died a few times diving, so the WF's ability to water breathe is great too.

I just don't like its look and animations (too used to small halflings, but U5 has completely destroyed Halfling's animation).

Anyway, WF veterans - care to share what you think? Do you stop playing fleshies once you get addicted to the metal skin?

I can see why someone might want to play a human for some classes, but for a Wizard, the Warforged race is an absolute easy button. Being able to sit comfortably in a Wall of Fire while you throw an occasional repair spell on yourself while your enemies bake brings a joy that no Drow or Human or Dwarf can match.

Shed the weakness of your flesh!

...seriously, the WF is an outstanding race for a lot of purposes. I love the WF Paladin, WF Monk, WF Fighter or Barbarian tank and I particularly love the WF Wizard. I probably woldn't make a WF Sorcerer, but there's no question on the Wizard side.

WF Favored Soul is a hoot also, because the Warforged DR stacks with the Favored Soul capstone DR.

That is the thing isn't it? Once you go Iron Man, there is no turning back. I have no doubt the WF is great, but my problem with it is (i) once I get it, there is little reason to use the other races (ii) it doesn't feel D&D.

I am a "character optimiser" from way back in Pencil and Paper days. I put together a character's mechanics and then I role play what I've put together. Even with the advantages that a Warforged character gets, I still play Humans and other races as well. I'm loving my WF Wizard 18/Rogue2, but if I reincarnate him, I'll probably make him a Drow Sorc 20 just to try out the other end of the spectrum.

As far as not feeling D&D, I think that we'd be saying that Halflings aren't "true to D&D" if the Tolkein estate had been a little extra-successful in their lawsuit way back when, too. I don't mind adding extra things to D&D if they cool enough and I'd say that Cylon golems are pretty cool.

Default not base D&D, but base Eberron

Warforged are important in the Eberron campaign setting, even in P&P. You could make an argument that the same is true of other races (like kalashtar, shifter, etc.), but I'm glad they put this in for a little bit more Eberron flair. Similarly, I might argue for artificer before druid, since it's more of an Eberron thing.

Warforged are the master race. All others are mere fleshbags that pale in comparison.

Seriously though, while there are pluses and minuses to everything Warforged are a fun race to play and arcane warforged make especially good solo characters.

I'm curious to know how you know what's going to be on sale in the future? Did I miss something somewhere?

I bought the WF last month, but any warning of any kind of future sales I'm certainly interested in.

    Thanks

Festivult offers. Apart from that, there is no real way to determine what will be on sale next.

Basic assumption (everything will be sold for a cheaper price somewhere in the future, with a high probability the day after you bought it) still holds though :P

Ack. I spent a lot of my TPs on warforged last week. (Deleted a human wizard and then bought and created a warforged wizard, to be precise). Now I have 1 day to make around 90 TPs and buy the Monk. Or pull out the credit card I guess!

    Yes.

    1) Easy to spot your character in a bruhahaha. He's the Jolly Green Giant in a sea of monsters.
    2) Don't sound like a smurf squeeze toy when hit.
    3) Don't have a hunchback when running around.
    4) Never have to wear a fishbowl while swimming.
    5) never have to look like Han Solo in Jabba's lounge.
    6) RED EYES!!!!!!!
    7) Nobody ever hits on you if you're playing a female WF
