Default Advice on building a Rogue?

Hi, I'm currently very new to DDO, and attempting to try and get a decent Rogue build going. I am planning on building a "Assasinate" Rogue for leveling and end game DPS out-put. But I'm kinda hesitant on multi-classing. Any advice for this Rogue I'm planning to build? Anything is worth telling me. Thanks for the help!

I would play around with options from the DDO Character Generation project - it's now a bit out of date with the U5 update in place, but I'm sure they'll update the software. Anyway it lives here:

Check out the other builds out there - many will have been published and critiqued. Most assassins seem to be pure builds, though you don't have to (but miss out on the chance of any capstone feats) Here's some:

I've also had the misfortune to play at mid-high levels with assassination rogues, who were assumed to be able to deal with traps, and while really good at what they did, sucked horribly at traps and got the PUG mostly killed by not being able to disarm them regularly. So be VERY good at what you do and advertise your character as the deadly type instead of a trap monkey, or you'll end up getting blame when the party expects the only rogue let in (you) to handle them on elite, and you blow up more than 50% of the control panels instead of disarming the trap. Sadly it looks like they are a bit gimped end-game with all the monster/boss immunities to these "death" effects like assassinate, so you're going to want to ensure your DPS is high (which shouldn't be too hard) and invest plenty of skill points in diplomacy, and USE it to get aggro off you - maybe use bluff too.

I won't even entertain the STR vs DEX build debate here.

It's a challenge to run with rogue as your first toon and play it properly. However, playing a rogue is FUN if you let it be. Enjoy!

quick answer that doesnt require much exercise for you.

halflings are high dps but elf or drow gets the best bonuses to traps. for weapons, rapiers scimitars khopeshs are the top 3 picks. str as ur main stat if u are decently established as a player. if not dex is easier. pure rogue is somewhat worth it again as there is a new capstone which isnt terrible. splashes into other classes dont hurt you at all but that will require some effort for ya to research.

be sure to carry the best + to trap skills items you can get (disable device, search, spot) as well as +int item. don't go over 14 base int, its just not necessary. mechanic is a good prestige to take until later levels when youve become more comfortable with the class and got better gear and can afford to lose the trap benefits and get more dps (though traps beyond L14 range are more of a nuisance then a game stopper).

for skills, the most important are spot search disable device and use magic device. the rest are all flavor, ie haggle, tumble, hide, move silently, diplomacy, jump

This is primarily a gear issue. If you aren't geared as an assassin to deal with traps you have more of a chance to fail.
My first rogue before I knew anything was a 28 point build with 8 int and 8 wis no prestige. At first I blew alot of traps. After awhile I was able to get practically everything without effort. I wouldn't make a rogue that way again, I am just saying...gear is a third of a rogues skill.

Rogues are among the worst classes to start with in DDO. In my view the hardest.

They really benefit from high playing and control skills (precise movement and placement), need good equipment both for survivability and combat and then they need good trap equipment as well. And they have very few hit points (if not taken care of through build and gear).

They don't solo-play very well either, since the largest part of their damage comes when the opponents are attacking someone else. While you can sneak past some fights, you cannot sneak past most quest objectives (like bosses).

But good luck, if you pull it off you will learn a lot that you can use when playing other classes later.
