    Default Does listen do anything?

Another question about my 12 Rogue,
I have a ton of points invested in Listen, and it kinda hit me that the only real benefit I have noticed from it is the little red circles on sneaking creatures feat. Which is well and good, but I can see their shadows anyway because of my high spot skill. Did I waste 12 levels worth of skill points that could have been put somewhere useful? If so, is it worth doing a Lesser Reincarnation just to get the points back?

I think you are supposed to be able to hear them if they are sneaking up on you from behind. I haven't noticed it personally. Of course, you have to have the sound effects turned up loud enough.

Edit: It may help you hear if there is a shrine before opening a door.

Erm, I have no listen skill but I can hear the shinre before a door is opened just fine.

Speculation here, but it should mean you are able to notice an invisible mob that's trying to walk past you. Then you can do the glitterdust thing so the party can see them.

Having said that, most builds can only max out either Spot or Listen (and not both), so I would tend to choose Spot and use a True Seeing item when necessary.

The only advantage to listen over spot is that you can hear invisible creatures (like the glass spiders) that won't give you an outline to see.

There's also a few spots where Listen will give you DM text. Most useful spot: WizKing, it'll let you know when a floor has a chance of falling out.

But, you don't need it very high for these.

I have Listen on my Bard to notice stealthed creatures, mostly because Bard's don't get Spot.

Listen on a rogue is a waste.
