New User: Install/Game Start Issue

Hello - I'm posting here because the community here seems nice, helpful and active! (unlike some other games I've tried looking into). I'm hoping some of you folks can get me going here.

I have been having problems getting DDO up and running. I tried installing from the installer on the site but that didn't work. I then found someone had posted another location on the ddo site for the installer - it worked and I got the package installed.

Now here's what happens:

* I run ddo
* An orange splash screen with a dragon comes up and you can see some files updating in the middle of the little screen
* The splash screen never goes away. It just stays there.
* When I look at the taskbar, a preview of a DIFFERENT screen (darker black) is displayed.
* Weird thing: If I click 3 or 4 times on the preview that's in the taskbar, the orange splash screen fades away slowly (with each click).
* In the program taskbar, I right clicked on DDO program that's still running. I can go to the different options and bring up that darker black screen. It has what seems like a Connect link, other links, tabs to different areas, and a box that can be scrolled. However, NONE of this stuff is clickable- not the scrollbar, not the Connect or the other links. It's all static.

What should I do to get past this problem?

I've been poking around at some threads to try some things and found this:

But when I try to run the file TurbineregisterGDF.exe program as administrator, I get this error message:

"The mdule Patchwrapperps.dll was loaded but the call to DLLUnregsiterServer failed with error code 0x80070002.

I have found that using these tips helped me get past this problem I'm having.
