Gaining Guild Renown

I've read my release notes--I won't claim to understand all of the changes--but I'm utterly confused about guild renown.

I don't understand how it is based. Is it the size of the guild? Activity? I read something about "crystals"--should I be looking for these? It's like my guild has a "favor meter" for itself and I don't know how to meet or garner the "favor."

The best ways, in this order:

- Quest end rewards
- Chests
- Killing monsters (very rare)

Your level compared to the quest also makes a difference.
