All this week, I will be recruiting new players to join the Dungeon Master's Guild aka DMG. We've been around since the start of Eberron Unlimited and plan to be around much longer. What are we about? I'll let the guild charter speak for itself. If this sounds like your kind of guild, send me a forum PM or send a mail or tell to Urboun, Drethe, Linshey, or Eaerven in-game.
The Sound Bite Version! (very abridged)
Preamble
We, the members of the DMG, seeking to promote party-friendly play in a casual environment for like-minded players and indeed all players on the Khyber server of Dungeons & Dragons Online: Eberron Unlimited, put forth the following charter. In the interest of fun and excitement, we are determined to treat others as we would like to be treated and act with ethics and good humor in all our interactions online.
By-Law #1: Membership Requirements
The DMG does not discriminate on the basis of player experience, age, or gender. Membership is offered to all characters level 6 or higher with a base Constitution of 10 or higher who complete an interview consisting of running at least one quest with a guild officer or leader. The quest is selected by the officer conducting the interview based upon those quests available to the prospective member. Demonstrable maturity is mandatory. Existing members with alternate characters (alts) are exempt from this requirement. To retain membership, you must log your highest-level character at least once a month (more is preferred). Inactive players will be removed. Exceptions may be granted to those required to take a leave of absence from the game such as those in military service. It is the responsibility of the member to inform an officer of such a leave beforehand. Promotion is granted on the basis of officer recommendation to any member who has been active in the guild for at least two months.
By-Law #2: Fight Before Looting
In the interest of promoting party unity and cooperation, all guild members are expected to defeat all monsters or other threats in an area before looting. Looting includes chests, collectible nodes, treasure bags, and any other items that might be available for pick-up that do not automatically apply to a character's inventory.
By-Law #3: Fair Looting Practices
A guild member is entitled to keep any items that drop for him/her in a chest. Guild members also respect the right of other players, guild members or not, to keep any items that drop for them. A guild member is encouraged to donate a valuable item that they have no use for to another member of the party who contributed in a meaningful manner and who does have a use for such an item and to allow all such members of the party a fair roll (type of roll to be determined by said guild member) if more than one party member desires the item. A guild member reserves the right to disallow a party member a roll if said party member does not have a reasonable use for said item or if said party member did not contribute in a meaningful manner to the group (i.e. a piker). Ultimately, distribution of a guild member's loot is left to the judgment of the individual guild member.
By-Law #4: Party Etiquette
In the interest of promoting polite interaction and cooperation among party members, a guild member is expected to uphold the highest standard of etiquette. Ragequitting, defined as quitting a group in the middle of a quest without any indication as to why (but not including unintentional disconnection), is prohibited of all guild members. Ditching, defined as leaving a group in the middle of a quest to run another quest, is also prohibited unless done with the express permission of your fellow party members. Quitting after a quest is complete or if real life interferes is permissible. Zerging, defined as rushing through a quest, ignoring optional objectives along the way is permitted only if it is the understood goal of all party members or special permission is given by the group leader. If the guild member is the party leader, he/she is expected to make his/her intentions to zerg known before beginning the quest. Guild members found to have violated By-Law #4 will be subject to disciplinary action, up to removal.
By-Law #5: Mic Use
Using a mic is not required, but encouraged. If a mic is used, it is the guild member's responsibility to do everything within his/her power to make sure his/her voice is audible. The DMG primarily uses in-game voice chat. If using in-game voice chat, turn off hands-free voice. It is the intent of the DMG to eventually host a ventrilo channel. If you are willing to host a ventrilo channel, speak to an officer.
Amendments to the Charter
Amendments to the charter must be proposed by an officer and ratified by a meeting of officers. A quorum of 3/4 of existing officers must be present and a simple majority of officers present must vote in favor of the amendment to ratify the amendment. An amendment must be approved by the guild leader to be adopted into the charter.
Edit: Added the sound bite version.
