Default FIX for "Resource String Not Found"

This is in reference to the problem listed in the other thread. I wanted to be sure people could see that I found a solution....

Took a look and found that the problem is actually a corruption in a common file for DDO.

The file you want is called LauncherUserSettings.xml.

It's located under the user profile, under Apllication data, local. Depening on your OS, the path varies. Just search your C drive for the filename.

Delete (or rename) the file. Launch DDO, and it will be like you never logged in (need to type your username in again). This will recreate a new LauncherUserSettings.xml file without the corruption.

Now, everyone can mail me a quarter! LOL

    Have fun!

it varies from OS to OS

    but on WinXP box,

    C:\Documents and Settings\Xyphos\Local Settings\Application Data\Turbine\Dungeons and Dragons Online\Launcher\LauncherUserSettings.xml

it was a hidden folder, so you'll have to enable the display of hidden folders, and change the username as shown in red above to that of your machine.

once you find that file, delete it and log in again.
you'll have to re-enter your login information and re-accept the EULA but at least we can log in again finally

to the Original Poster, +10 rep. awsome find, and easy fix.
(this saves me the trouble of gutting apart their launcher and recompiling a new simplified one)

    Default Yep

Yeah, it worked on the hubby's computer too. If you've logged in with more than one account on that computer, there may be more than one of these files; we deleted one file and it didn't work, there were still the user names in the pick list. We went back and found another file and renamed it, and it worked like a charm.

    Thanks a million! (here's a quarter )

Edit: At least, I can't think of any other explanation for why it didn't work the first time.

For some clarification on where to find this file:

    WinXP -
    C:\Documents and Settings\<username>\Local Settings\Application Data\Turbine\Dungeons and Dragons Online\Launcher

    Win7/Vista -
    C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Lo cal\Turbine\Dungeons and Dragons Online\Launcher

Note that the "Local Settings" (XP) and "AppData" (Vista) folders are "hidden" folders, you'll need to enable hidden files and folders view to find them:

Vista/Win7 click on: Organize > Folder and Search Opitons > View (tab) > "Show hidden files and folders"

XP click on: "Tools" > "Folder Options" > View (tab) > "Show hidden files and folders"

    Posted in the other thread:

Go to your Windows user settings and in one of your folder drop down menus enable your ability to view hidden files or folders. Then follow the path outlined in this post and delete the file labled " launcherusersettings.xml.

If you still can't find the file, simply search for the launcherusersettings (you can just search for launcher and select the right one from the search results) file using your windows search function, including hidden files and folders in your search, and delete it there.

    1. To start first close out of the launcher if its open (right-click the ddo "shield" icon near the Windows "clock")
    2. Now click on the Windows "Start" button and click on "Computer" or "My Computer"
    3. In there double click on your "C:" Drive (Might display as "Local Disk C:")
    4. In there double-click on "Users" if you are on Vista/Windows 7 or "Documents and Settings" if you are on XP.
    5. In there double-click on the folder that is the same name as your XP or Vista/Win7 Username
    6. In there you need to enable hidden files and folders view:
    7. - XP: Click on "Tools" > "Folder Options" > "View" (tab) > click to activate "Show hidden files and folders" in the list
    8. - Vista/7: Click on "Organize" > "Folder and Search Options" > "View" (tab) > click to activate "Show hidden files and folders" in the list
    9. Now once that is done you should see "Local Settings" if you're on XP or "AppData" if you are on Vista/Win7 double click on that
    10. In there you should see either "Application Data" (XP) or "Local" (Vista/7) double-click on that
    11. In there find the folder "Turbine" and double-click on it
    12. In there double-click on the "Dungeons and Dragons Online" and then the "Launcher" folder
    13. Now find "Usersettings.xml" and right-click that and choose "Delete" then relaunch the game
EDIT: Added the DDO folder thanks for the catch Mutantbee!

NOTE to the above instructions (if yours is like mine):

Once you are in the turbine folder, then open the Dungeons and Dragons Online folder, then open the launcher folder.

Inside there, the file you need to delete is called: LauncherUserSettings.xml.

Glad to see everyone (most?) back in the game. : ) And thanks again to Mirthgar for the help. : )

    Glad this worked. Thanks.

Having to dig around in my computer every couple updates because the game is unplayable is kinda annoying.

Thank you so so so much! I did the whole updating/replacing files (of the ENTIRE game), only to get the same message, and was about to pull my hair out, until I saw your thread. It worked like a charm. Thanks!

Thumbs up Similar problem, same fix!

Thanks so much guys! I was having a bit of a problem with my DDO launcher - it worked alright, but it always spawned off-screen, and I couldn't figure out how to drag it back onscreen. Just deleted the LauncherUserSettings.xml and it worked fine!

that sounds like a router/proxy problem.
when you deleted that corrupted XML, you also deleted a few other settings that were inside it.
just go through the launcher settings and re-configure.

Thanks alot. It took a few but I figured out how to get it done. Thank you Turbine for your excellent staff of players working hard to insure that they have people to play the game with. I also appreciate Mirthgar's further assistance and clarification. Mutantbee I believe you can add temporary Turbine technical assistant to your resume +1 rep, and sorry I give no quarter
