I had this problem as well. I hope it doesn't affect items that sell as I have a few high end on the AH that I do not care to lose the plat on.

Update: I don't know why the Cancel button was grayed out earlier, but I was able to cancel all my soon-to-expire items. They arrived safely attached to the letters. 13 items saved, sans posting fee for any that might have sold. After this, that means only 12 items were lost. Better, but obviously not ideal. I am assuming if an item displays its tooltip correctly, it means I posted it after Update 5 and thus if returned it will not be lost? I hope so, because I still have a number of other auctions up that I am assuming are safe.

I had the same problem. Fortunately all I actually lost was 15 strings of prayer beads and a +1 ogre power belt.

HOWEVER, if you cancel your auctions instead of letting them expire, you DO get the item back. After I lost the first two items, I tested this on everything else I had up.

That could be a temporary fix until they get this fixed. Once your auction gets down to a few hours left, if nobody has bidded on it, cancel it.

I wish I had known that something like this might happen. I had many multiple items posted at the auction house and many sold (which thankfully I got the money for), however, the items that expired have gone missing from my mail. I am a P2P player and have a VIP account. I am missing more items than I believe it is fair for me to have to do screen captures of. Also the later ones that expired which I have not opened have a 3 week expiration time so I don't want to open them if this is not going to be fixed before the 4 days the first ones have left (I opened them all not realizing that the time was shortened by opening).

I submitted a tech request and am quite flummoxed to see that tech support has not yet responded to my request. I understand that they are likely busy handling complaints, but it has been nearly 24 hours and nothing in my email at all, not even a form response saying that there are technical issues and I will be responded to as quickly as possible.

I may be new to this community but I have worked support for other online games and generally support is given 24 hours to respond to an inquiry. Is this not the case with DDO? Also, have we heard anything from the administrators about this problem and when it is expected to be fixed? I did a search and have so far only found people complaining about the problem but have found nothing on the fix.

    Thanks!

I do not wish to disappoint you all but you really need to accept that you will not get the items back. You will not get compensated from Turbine directly. Sure, maybe once all the dust settles from the abomination that is U5 they will throw out a generic bone to all for the 'inconvenience' like extend a bonus xp or +1 loot weekend but that's it.

I am not trying to be a kill joy but this HAS happened before and Turbine did nothing specific about it for anyone. Whether they actually can track what was missing or not, they do not have the time/resources/manpower/desire to actually replace every bodies missing stuff.

I am speaking as someone who also lost 5 items in returned ended auctions. I am also someone who lost items previously and was told by a Turbine CSR over the phone that they items would be returned once they sorted it out. Days went by and nobody ever got anything back, just a generic "oops we screwed up, here's 3 days of +1 loot". Back when they first implemented the AH, if you posted an item with out a buyout price, someone could just buy it for 0 gp. They didn't anticipate this, it wasn't how they intended it to work, they did shut down auction and fixed it later. It was at that time that I lost several items so I called Turbine directly. The nice CSR assured me they had records of who had what and assured me they would give me the items back... it never happened. Their official stance changed a few days later. No item refunds would happen.

It will not be replaced. Accept the lesson learned (don't leave items in AH during updates) and move on a little wiser.

I wish I were wrong (always possible, if so I will publicly congratulate Turbine for the move) but 4 years of history says those items are G O N E !

The sooner you accept this, the sooner you can get over it.

I know what you're saying, GG - and appreciate that you're just trying to help those of us affected by this to manage frustration levels, but........ as someone who hasn't experienced this before, I don't think it's out of line to expect some kind of response.

Am not expecting "Oh dear, let me replace those for you immediately", but "Oops - really sorry guys. Wish we could fix it and will try not to let it happen again!"seems justified.

These things do happen - am dealing with being downgraded, am dealing with losing some of the better stuff I've ever auctioned. Life goes on, but having not done anything to cause these things to happen, I do feel like I deserve an acknowldgement and an apology.

Although various forum comments don't lead me to expect one, I'm not yet in the "it's always been like this, and will never improve" camp. After all, there aren't many ways we can express our displeasure/disappointment other than in the forums!

Don't worry that so many of us are doing this. Your advice is appreciated, and we'll either learn better...........or maybe one day we'll see an improvement!

No problem man, I do empathize with you, I really do.

I would like to hope they would acknowledge it and try and make it right, but I cant believe it anymore.

You are completely justified posting this thread and making all of the comments you made. My intent is as you said to try and help some move on (from a place I have been). I was foolish enough to leave some items in the AH over the update so I didnt follow my own advice. But since I am jaded, the result and response do not surprise or bother me.

Keep fighting the good fight and good luck. I hope you pull better loot today than you lost yesterday

I agree that we probably won't get the items back. Considering some of what I had posted though, I'd like something more like a +4 loot weekend instead of a +1 as compensation.

Default I for one DO expect them to fix it

I'm not tryin to hear any of that "oh but it's only a little item" or "how much did you lose" bs. That's not the point. They screwed up and I had three items vanish for the exact same reason. And I DO expect them back. I am trying to make an in game ticket for the items. But I ran into a stupid problem with getting the ticket to post. You must choose a category, and then the next subcategory, and so on. I picked Gameplay -> Items -> Missing/Lost and the last box with no drop down keeps preventing the submission of my ticket with the description in it below. I tried entering things like the item name in that box, but it doesn't matter what I put there. It simply resets the empty box and will not submit.

What is going on? Anyone ever had this type of problem where the category selections refused to fill and prevented you from submitting a ticket at all? I need to know how to do this so I am at least doing my part in the process and even if they do mistreat me as a customer by refusing to help, it's all on them. I will at least not be someone complaining for whom the answer to "Well did you submit a ticket?" is no. I am trying. So now, I must post in the forum technical assistance area to ask the help of a tech in submitting the ticket for a bug in game. That says everything any prospective new player looking at this game would need to know about whether DDO is worth a try, and none of it good.

I'm callin you out Turbine. Show all us long time customers and new ones alike that have breathed new life and new money into your game true customer service. Don't prove the guy who's saying you will give us the shaft right. A new start deserves new chances to do it right. It's all in a database somewhere and you know it. And while you're at it, can you please make it unnecessary to pick a final category descriptor just to submit you bug report in the first place. So many players that want to help by putting in the bug report probably don't just because your bug report system is itself bugged.

Edit: I managed to get that ticket to submit by finding a different subcategory that didn't require a final box to be typed in. I then found out about the not being able to post bug and submitted a ticket for it. All of this was before seeing the official post about the second bug. I am positive that these two and the pre update items with no proper description and the auction sold mails with some error ID string unknown are all rolled up together in one cause. Remember, when you detach the items or money from auction house mail, they auto delete, so one without item or money is proof positive of the player having had a real thing since it would take a hacker to send their own system mail to try and fraud them for items they never had. The fact that the system shows these items and the fact that players who have suffered from this mishap have auction expired mails sitting in their mailboxes without an item make it impossible to accept that they cannot know who had what or return them to us. I am slightly encouraged to see official response finally acknowledging this part of the problems from update 5, since I didn't see anything else until now. I am sure they understand that dragging the "fix" for this out more than 5 days to allow the mail to be deleted and then throwing their hands up and saying we can't just take peopls's word for it would now very blatantly and obviously appear as what it is. Here's to hoping they will either have the fix, or at least the return of the lost items before the next five days or have their programmers add like 30 days to every in game mail from auction house (does anybody know what happens if you just ignore a sold or expired mail with an item longer than the time left?). We are all watching.

I am sorry you have had bad experiences in the past. This does not mean that Turbine will not have learned from previous incidents and make changes based on the feedback they have received. It is lazy thinking and dismissive attitudes like yours that don't change things and don't really help people, it just discourages them.

This incident and all of the hot fixes they have implemented make me wonder if Turbine perhaps need to re-evaluate how they do testing for new updates and changes to the game to work out bugs before uniformly rolling it out. It seems to me that there is minimal testing done since everyone has so many complaints whenever a new version is rolled out.

I would purpose that perhaps Turbine utilize the creativity and intelligence of the community here to test forthcoming updates. Maybe set up a test server where people play to test the new updates (have the community do the testing not the programmers) because it affects us, the end users, in ways that the programmers may not foresee when writing updates. Another thing they may want to consider, and I saw this mentioned elsewhere, an update like this be rolled out to a single server and work out any bugs before rolling it out to all servers. That way there are less players impacted if something goes wrong. Turbine then wouldn't have to make huge fixes and keep all servers down for longer than people would like. This would make it easier on the tech support people and allow Turbine to be a little better able to inform us of issues rather than having to run around fixing problems after the fact. This would help their roll-outs be more proactive rather than reactive, as they are currently.

The think I found to be most disappointing was not that I lost items, I can handle that I lose things all the time, but that there was never an acknowledgment of my ticket. It took hundreds of people complaining to get any sort of issues mentioned publicly. I can understand that they are likely busy trying to clean up the mess but all I wanted was some sort of acknowledgment that said "we know of the issue and are working on it."

I'm the same I have a VIP account and had loads of items on AH. Some I managed to cancel but loads returned with no attachment I have lost thousands of Plat from lots of grinding and tbh at lvl 7 that's a lot to me.

If we don't get any sort of compo then I will re-asset my commitment to the game.

This happened to me as well. had a half dozen items that weren't attached to the mail sent back to me. Oddly enough though, the auctions that did sell had the coin attached to them and I could remove it....

I still don't have any of my items showing up. I have 23 auctions that expired the night of the update, and the mail is still sitting in my mailbox, without items attached.

@Loxy39 - did you have to submit an online ticket or something?

Anyone else still having this issue?

I submitted a ticket and they replied to it in about 30 seconds. Said something like "We are working hard on fixing this issue, please check the forums for the latest news." As far as I know, this is the only thread concerning this issue, no?

@QuantumEntanglement - I had the same issue when submitting a ticket, i just choose another option (i think it was "General") and explained in the notes that I could not submit under lost item.

All my mail with the items I had expired themselves expired today and disappeared. I had the foresight to take screenshots of each one, so maybe I can get them back somehow...anyone else have this happen?
