Default Kill count monitoring leads to ignorance.

I was on a TS run the other day and I couldn't believe the focus on the kill count number. Sure, I think competition is healthy, if you don't lose focus of the objectives. I do however understand TS is a F2P raid and in all honesty you get what you pay for.

Ideally, I would think it would be a priority to protect your healers and support classes. But with this surge of people thinking kill count is all that matters I notice a lot less attention being paid to tactics. DDO was built around group tactics, and sure while you can complete a dungeon and raid without any, a group with sound tactics will net a quicker and smoother run.

On that note I've decided to create a list of common "zerger" quotes I have heard on numerous occasions! Please feel free to add anything you have heard that makes coffee come out of your nose and splash onto the keyboard.

*Note, I will use Zerger and the character name, so if your characters name is zerger, I apologize.

    1. Zerger has disconnected. <--- One of my favorties! A common defense after they are called out.

    2. HEAL ME! <--- A phrase used when they are in over their head. Also, normally spammed in group chat.

    3. I didn't get any buffs. <--- Maybe one day DDO will invent zone wide proximity, but for now you'll need to stick with the group.

    4. How did the cleric die? <--- How many licks does it take to get to the center of a tootsie pop?

    5. I can't do any damage to the boss. <--- Are the runes in?

    6. Cleric says "Where did you die?" Zerger responds "I don't know."

    7. Whats this lever do? -click- You have died.

    8. Did someone pick up my stone?

    9. I soloed this on elite yesterday.

    10. Does everyone on this server suck? <--- Notice the only common part of that equation is you.

For all you know...the clerics might not need help since they might be "Battle Clerics". It may not be politically correct nowadays to label all clerics as healbots needing protection and it might be offensive to some of them.

A player complaining about another player helping them not getting killed because it offends their playstyle is a little to modern day frivalous lawsuit for a RPG.

In my day that was called teamwork.

And for all you know they were heal bots, I fail to see your logic. I'm pretty certain they were not battle clerics, otherwise they would have been in battle, not trying to strafe away healing themselves. Needless to say this isn't what this thread was about, it is about people rushing through and leaving **** beating on people that might not be able to defend themselves or leaving people behind because it's their first run. In some cases, yeah, it's ok to zerg, but not when its to the detriment of the party. Too many people care about themselves getting to the end and getting the loot and it should be that everyone gets there. You train like you fight, then maybe the phrase " Man, I am so used to doing it this way.", because some smart guy wiped your party on an elite run, wouldn't exist.

My point was that clerics in this game are not just "healbots". There are people who play their "healers" offensively and they are often the ones who "zerg" in front of everyone, kiting mobs through blade barriers. And if you assume that they are there to just heal the party then you might find yourselves really ****ed off when he/she leaves you in the dust.

Of course, I am just pointing out a single assumption that you have about clerics which may or may not relevant to your thread so feel free to ignore it.

    Indeed.

If I join that raid on one of my healing toons, and through craptastic happenings a good portion of the party is dead on the way there... And through a lovely combination of not listening/being ineffective results in a few others dying on the first encounters before the golem - You can make it a sure bet I'm going offensive.

No need to get concerned however, the party will still be healed. They just won't need it often, if at all, as I've taken all the aggro away.

Far less mana intensive than spamming heals at ineffective melee taking huge damage = When I steal aggro and kill it myself.

Battle clerics rock, I mean as a 28 or 32 point build, clerics can make due with very little equipment. The main attributes of a battle cleric are Strength, Constitution, and Wisdom. Wisdom works wonders, since it is a clerics sp pool and affects the dc's on crowd control. Strengh and Constition are a must when swinging up in the front lines, can't be a low hit point cleric.

I enjoyed a 28 point battle cleric I made up. Dwarf cleric with 14 str/8 dex/14 con/8 intel/18 wisdom/6 cha. Basically pick up a greataxe feat, and max wisdom. Drop a sound burst or command in the early levels, buff a little every so often and wack away. Alot of other aoe cc at the higher levels to choose from.

Not alot of healing is done when mobs are stunned or kissing the floor. So might as well start swinging.

I probably messed up the feats a little, but the melee dps does get grounded at around level 12. Fortunently the build calls for maxing wisdom, so you can still be a great raid healer with 1 or 2 feat swaps.

Of course a player's play style makes or breaks a build. I had tons of fun.

Gents, quit picking on my guildmate.

Zergers who are clueless = death of the party.

Zergers who know what they are doing = fast completion, no deaths, but no fun for the rest of the party members.

Battle clerics are fine, if they so state at the beginning of a mission and the group knows not to rely on them for healing.

I do know some battle clerics that can do both, but on a server with a ton of new players who are clueless... its unlikely they can do either well.

I was on my WF sorc the other night. Running Deleras. The monk in the party was concerned with nothing but his kill count and being in the lead.

He was NOT happy with me at all that I was outkilling him since I had firewall. Kept saying I was cheating.

So we get to part 4. ALL of us were standing outside the door ready to go in. ALL go inside. EXCEPT said monk.

We asked him if he was coming. He said yes. We proceeded down and went through the first trap and started to clear the first room.

He then pipes up. Oh you didn't wait for me. I am going to lose 80% xp. It has happened before. blah blah.

We kept telling him no he wouldnt. Besides he never said he was going afk or the like.

We offer to leave the quest and regroup. He said no. He would drop and solo it himself. All because I was outkilling him? SOme people just take the kill count issue a tad too far.

I ended up leaving the group after we finished out to reform so he wouldn't lose anything by our going down without him. He was standing right there. Said he was going in, and never did......then he blamed me for leaving the group etc etc.

A little competition is healthy. With that in mind on a guild TS run, we decided to compete for highest breakables.

This seemed to be the best method, little things like high DPS have nothing to do with it.

Imagine what the mobs were thinking when the door opened, and we ran by them all to break everything they owned.
