Default Bluff is definately worth it...

I am now a firm believer in the skill bluff despite what I have read in the forums. Being able to single pull monsters from sneak mode away from a mob and applying a sneak attack once they reach you is absolutely awesome. I watched as an orc in from "where there is smoke" run past my entire party to get to me after I used bluff to pull him as he ran up to get the cleric, then WHACK! Instant Death. He was surprised, he never seen anyone use it before and have it work. That orc was a little distance away too.

Are there any other rogues out there who utilize bluff in their builds?
What do you think about it?

The simple reason why its not used is time.

If you bluff enemys in easy quests where you could just run through in 2 minutes..well...

So you wouldn't bluff something coming at the sorc or cleric even out of sneak?
How about to pull things so you won't get mobbed and rather be the ones mobbing instead?
My party consisted of a rogue 3, a paladin 2, a cleric 5, and I was 2 fighter 2 rogue. We were doing it on hard and the closest thing to being a tank was the cleric and myself (just because we had more hp then they did), so even if it was an easy quest we still had to be somewhat tactical.

And remember I started a new build just to experiment with it more. But from what I am seeing I am liking it alot. Even if it is just early levels yet.

Nono im not saying its a bad strategie if you have a full group who likes to play slower.

Actually its quite useful in Epic content too!

But for most Veterans who just "zerg" through the low and mid level its not an option.

if you have static group, or you like to go trough quests slowly and explore quest rather than run trough same one, then bluff is skill for you

    This.
Why would anyone bother to bluff a mob who dies from a single swing anyway?

Because I just learned how to use the skill being I made a build centered around it. I was experimenting the other day with Improved feint, bluff seems to last longer though it takes longer to activate. Just recently I found out you could do it from sneak. I was going to sneak up there and try it out but the cleric ran forward, pulled aggro, then I pulled it from him using bluff. Kind of amazed at how far it reached.

So Being just off the boat of course its a trash mob lol What in the Harbor area isn't?

Did that change to bluff already happen? Did I make it up in my head or just add it into the turning undead change? I can't remember. I remember bluff used to make enemies run away for a second or two if you bluffed them, so it was obnoxious to try and get the sneak attack that bluff opens up because they ran away.

I guess bluffed monsters run toward you now? I'll use bluff a lot more if so. My mechanic plays in a 2-man static group of survival/killing inefficiency of said mechanic/cleric, so he had to use bluff frequently before to kill things faster. If they run toward us when bluffed now, that'd be oh so much easier.

Related note: last I tried it on Lamannia bluffing broke sneak.
Viability of bluff might vary depending on what goes live with U5.

yeah, that latest change may have seriously nerfed sneaky Rogues.

Maybe I can adapt...not sure. Have to see just how bad the changes are first.

    Default um..

So, you got bluff all built up, and you can ninja assassin a single mob. How are you at traps? What more usefull skill did you sacrifice to build up bluff? If you can't fill the primary purpose of a rogue, traps, then your bluffing yourself into thinking that you will be usefull to any group for much longer.

bluff is a good skill but turbine refuses to make it useful. they got rid of the animations for intim and diplo way back but insist on keeping it for bluff, personally i'd like to see the animations for all 3, they were cool just lose the stupid progress bar

(this is where someone says that the progress bar is essential for some reason)

Bluff has a long range than mobs detect anyway, you don't need sneak unless they're just out of sight around a corner or something. But as has already been said, mobs are so gimpy theres no reason to pull in DDO like there is in other MMOs, just grab them all and knock them down as fast as possible.

Using the bluff skill in that mannaer is best for the solo rogue, where you can go as fast or as slow as you want. It is the best single pull mechanism in the game. Unfortunately, many parties won't slow up enough for you to use it. If you can find a group that'll let you do it, that's great, but don't expect it.

Use of bluff in a group situtation may differ than when solo. You cannot use it to pull a mob when it has already been activated, or has aggroed on someone else. (edit - not sure how you got it off the cleric, I've never seen a mob pulled off someone once it's been activated. Perhaps if no one is swinging at it, then it'll move. If it gets damaged it may break the bluff. I'll have to check it out.) When you bluff a mob, you basically create a distraction for that mob to investigate. It will walk over to the spot where you bluffed from. After that it will activate and aggro on anyone else it detects, so you better be quick to kill it before then. When solo you don't have to worry about that, since it has no one else to aggro on, you can dispatch him as you please.

I have also used it to pull stuck mobs. Sometimes they get stuck in unreachable places (shroud pt 4). Certainly nothing to get excited about or build your toon around, but if you already have the skill, then you can use it to unstick them.

If you think that rogue's are only good for being a trap monkey, you are sorely mistaken. If you think you can't build a quite decent trap monkey without maxing out all the search and disable skills, you're sorely mistaken again. Especially when it comes to DDO. Rogues trap monkey skills are rarely utilized in this game. Most toons will simply zerg through the traps rather than wait for them to be found and disabled. Assassin rogue's are awesome to play--and with minimal skill points in search/disable can still take care of almost every trap in game with good, easy to find gear.

Well that sucks. Way to go turbine; making a marginal skill, even more useless.

Me and the friends I run with are more fans of the scout with high hide and low move silently mob split. Dash on in in sneak, get some attention, have mobs "search" their way away from all their friends to just around the corner where your friends are. Gank the 3-6 mobs that were grabbed. Repeat if needed, otherwise if pack thinned enough just roll over the remaining mobs and clean house.

Much faster, gets the job done just about as well, and doesn't require investment in a niche skill to pull off.

    I am sure we'll manage.

    ...

Si parva licet, I tend to build many alts - and experiment a bit with builds.
I have a fairly large pool of characters - when they nerf a feature, chances are they'll boost something else, so I usually break even.

Maybe my tempests will work differently under U5, and it will take a bit to adjust - but my elven mechanic might actually enjoy benefits.
