Default Please hold... you are 4th in the que to be imploded

Evoker and the Favored Soul spell implosion. Sure, its cool. You get the enemy imploding into a black hole with some juicy sound effects but ever noticed it has a holding pattern?
Killing one enemy at a time, with its limited time duration seem slightly gimp. Here we have an all mighty Favored Soul, being granted the power to suck foes inside themselves, why can it not work like Banshee Wail, or similar area of effect spell?

    As it is...

Cast spell, run into enemy, ones that save, stand by them hope they fail the next save, run over to next enemy "Hi how you doin... do you know if your next to implode?"

" No...ok, ima just stand here while your friends stick at me, cause if I run off, I may just run out of range, or the timer will vanish .... hi how you doin...do you know if your on the implode guest list?"

You create a destructive resonance in a corporeal creature’s body. For each round you concentrate, you cause one creature to collapse in on itself, killing it. (This effect, being instantaneous, cannot be dispelled.)

You can target a particular creature only once with each casting of the spell.

Implosion has no effect on creatures in gaseous form or on incorporeal creatures.
So, since it's one creature per round, the current implementation is accurate in feel. We could be not able to do anything while it lasts, it only ticking once every 6 seconds, and lasting only 24 seconds, for only 4 mobs killed.

So I dunno. It works alright as-is. I'd love for it to be more Banshee-like but I think that's not really called for in either power nor flavor. We can already kill, what, 6, 8 mobs in the 8 seconds it lasts?

It's funny, it's sad, and all too true. +1 rep because you are also right.

Here's a plan: have the enemy do implosion, and let's see how fast we are to get the heck out of dodge when the first party member goes poof.

Before you answer too quickly, remember the reasons why we have color coded blade barriers and walls of fire....

    That would be fun.

I think it's stopped by Deathward though, so I don't think it would work that well.

EDIT: Wait, I know! Give it to...BEHOLDERS!

They just need to cut the recast down to 30 seconds. A minute is ridiculous.

    I agree.

And as a conclusion... it's just not worth taking on a favored soul.

Mass heal, true res, energy drain

I wouldn't even consider dropping any of them.

Implosion has a cool factor... It's not even that useful. If I would get another spell slot I might just take hezrou.

Hell with that, I love Implosion. Among other things, it's the only instant death spell that works on undead.

I just don't like waiting a full damned minute between recasts. Wail of the Banshee is nothing like that. I have no problem with arcanes having the superior mass death spell, but the margin here is -too- large. Even if it's not as good, it's still a level 9 spell.

Yeah I had the spell for a long time... loved it too. It's just not as useful as the others though, at least not until and if they fix it. 8 seconds once a minute? Come on. It's really fun and definitely has a cool factor. Point being it's simply not as useful.

If I ever roll a cleric though... heh.

first, it needs to bypass SR
then a Fort save negates which is all high-end content is going to save on (pointless to have high level spells fail at high level quests.)
and deathblock/deathward prevents even tho it's technically not a death spell.
it's not worth using as it is.
for the 18/2 builds where you only get 1 lv9 spell slot, it's as useless as that frikin slow mass-heal.
I'd rather use energy drain as the only lv9.

    imho, it should work as an instant spell with a 3 minute cooldown;
cast it and everything around you implodes without any SR check or saving throw and bypassing deathblocks.
then, it might have some use. (like saving the healer from the giant train the monk created)
