Annoying black screen

So I've seen others with this issue on here and tried the various fixes that I've read about and nothing works. Every time I try to load the game it brings up a black screen and that's it. I can alt-tab out so the system isn't completely locking up, but it does say that the dndclient.exe is not responding in my tasks. I've updated my video card, directx etc. Made sure the apps were allowed in the firewall. Disabled windows aero (I'm running windows 7 x64). I also run two geforce 8800GTX's. I get no errors, just a black screen that wont go away until I force the app to shut down. I even went as far as changing my desktop resolution to 1024 x 768 since that is what the game is loading in by default with no luck. The UAC is also off. I refuse to even run windows with that **** on. I chose to reset the video settings in the launchers options (just in case, even though I never set any video settings) and still no go. The actual user preferences file doesn't even have video stuff listed, just HTTP ****. Seemed a little barren to me since it's a preferences file. I tried deleting it and having the game recreate it, same thing. I've installed the high res and low res versions, tried running both with dx10 settings and without. This is the only game I've had issues with and I've been through quite a few MMO's the past few months. I've been a subscriber off and on since the games initial release. I even beta tested and pre-ordered this way back in the day. I would really love to get back into it but I cannot get this game to run at all. I'm about to give up and just take my money elsewhere but I figured I'd give the forums a shot before I just decide to never come back at all. I'm hoping someone here can save turbine a customer, but my patience is starting to run out. I've submitted a support ticket about this but have yet to hear anything.

Sounds like your having the same issues I'm having, but I'm one step ahead. Check your error reports and I'm willing to bet your having a video card failure. I've been fighting this issue for 2 months now with no luck. I can't find out why the video card fail, because it only happens with this program.

There are no logs in my actual DDO folder, but in the windows event viewer the only message I am getting is this:

The Desktop Window Manager was unable to start because composition was disabled by a running application.

I remember this happening while running vista when I was in the beta for DDO Unlimited. That's been a while though and I can't remember what I had to do to fix it. =\ I was even going to become a paying customer again, but I'm not going to sit here and pull my hair out over a game issue. I've got many more to choose from if need be. I won't immediately throw this one out the door and move on, but I'm not going to spend that much time trying to fix it either.

I have also tried disabling the sound device in my system and starting the game that way as I saw that this worked for someone else having this issue, but of course that didn't work either.

FYI - This is Draklyare(original poster). This is my original account, didn't notice I was actually posting under my second login... but anyways. I still have yet to hear from Turbine on this. I sent them an actual support ticket with not even a single response. I'm guessing they don't care if they get actual paying customers or not. This is just telling me to take my monthly fee and give it to some other company which is what I'm going to do. I've been here since the original beta, hate that it comes to an end this way.

Just wanted to update my issue was fixed. Got a reply from Turbine today in my email and they had me uninstall OpenAL and/or Host ADI (OpenAL) and try to rerun the game. Worked fine then. Annoying openAL junk. I'm just happy I can finally get back on here. Guess I'll be reactivating later this week. I have way too many characters to just play for free lol.
