All Studio Ghibli - I'm working on my collection. I have to say of the ones I've seen, this is the following order (more or less, they are mostly equal towards the bottom of the list, all good, but definately Howl's is my all time favorite so far):
    Howl's Moving Castle
    Spirited Away
    Ponyo
    Princess Mononoke
    Kiki's Delivery Service
    My Neighbor Totoro
    Castle in the Sky
Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind

Can't wait to see the new Studio Ghibli film!

As far as anime series, the following are my favorites/ones I own:
Love Hina - This is one my husband and I have watched over and over again, usually in the winter (especially when we were in college) as just a good vegging anime.
    Full Metal Panic
    Samurai Champloo
    Cowboy Bebop
    Ah! My Godess
    Witch Hunter Robin
    Rorouni Kenshin (and Samurai X)
Robotech Macross Saga only (didn't care for the 2nd/third seasons/series)

I absolutely loved Reboot and want to find it on DVD I had based I think my 2nd D&D character off of Andraia (a sea elf more or less with shurikens as hair decorations and a trident)

My husband and I are currently watching Bleach on Hulu. We just finished season 1. We had watched season 1 and most of season 2 back when it was on Cartoon Network Adult Swim, but never watched the entire thing. Next is proabably Inuyasha, again another series I only watched a couple seasons of.

I know we're talking about Anime, but the following are manga series I own and enjoy:
    Love Hina
    Full Metal Panic
Ah! My Goddess <--- veeerrry long series, be prepared to spend some money to own it all , I'm actually behind a few issues now
    A.I. Love You
    Chobits

I would suggest using Vuze and dattebayo.com Vuze to download and dattebayo for the Bleach episodes. They are translated/subtitled and not the americanized butchered versions you watch on cartoon network or hulu. Sadly if you want to watch current episodes, crunchyroll is doing bleach, I can only hope and pray they do a better job than ViD media does.

Bleach and Inuyasha are both subtitled on Hulu, if that's what you mean. I guess I don't really know the difference that much since I have either just watched anime on TV or bought the DVDs from Amazon or wherever.

I agree mostly with watching subtitled versions. Sometimes though (especially when I'm dealing with the baby), I can't pay attention and read everything, so watching a dubbed version is nice in those cases where I can easily listen but can't necessarily be constantly watching the screen. Besides, there are a couple really good English voice actors (like Steve Bloom). But, there are also a lot of bad ones...

It's been cleaned up a lot with CGIs and from what I've heard some ambiguities are being clarified too. It's being released in 4 parts, I just ordered 1.11 from Amazon. It's only $14 there, so why not?

This made me curious. What series or movies have you watching recently and what's your opinion on them?

    Answering my own question:

FLCL: anyone who loves anime and hasn't seen this one yet should do so asap. This is one of the (if not the) best anime's out there. Only 6 episodes but so awesome it's gonna splat your brain.

Nausicaä of the valley of the wind: Studio Ghibli, one of their early movies. This one's quite obvious...Studio Ghibli!

Voices of a distant star: A short movie (think it's only 30 mins) touching the deepest of your soul.

Full Metal Alchemist Brotherhood: Personally I find this one better than the original FMA. Top serie.
I watched those except Voices of a distant star... Maybe. Did it involve someone texting over long distances? If so, I saw it a few years ago.

I am surprised nobody mentioned "Legend of the Galactic Heroes". The best space opera anime out there with 110 chapters filled with intrigue, political plots and hundreds of named characters that die all the time. A battle of good against good, while everyone is trying to backstab everyone else! No plot armor for anyone on this one!

When referring to subtitles, enthusiasts generally mean English subtitles with the original Japanese soundtrack.

The two main differences between the English dub and the original Japanese track is the sound quality and the emotional content of the voices. Many English dubs tape over various sound effects that aren't replaced, cutting back to the original soundtrack when there is no dialogue, and the English actors usually do not make many of the non-word sounds that were often purposely written for their characters to add to their uniqueness.

Also the English dubs take time, so for an ongoing series like Bleach, the fans that watch it in Japanese are about 80 episodes ahead of those waiting for the English dub. Likewise the ones reading the manga it is based on are ahead of the ones watching the show in Japanese.

Not to mention they sometimes just outright change dialogue in the translation. You miss context or jokes that they just leave out, whether it just gets lost in translation or for censorship purposes.

Sorry it wasn't clear earlier (Alleyna is my wife). On Hulu, Bleach has spoken Japanese with English subtitles, not English dub with English subtitles.

there are a few extra scenes in 1.11 that clears up some of the ambiguities yes, but it gets seriously seriously good in 2.22 where it starts to deviate a bit more from the 'original'... if you havent seen it yet.. do so.. i honestly cant wait for the next installment. Just finished 2.22 last night.

    Time of Eve.

Not action at all, but a good thinking anime. Also love the Ghost in the Shell movie.

Of course they're both about robots and development of AI

When you're done and still crave for more, I strongly suggest you to watch the live action. It's one of the few live action that are really good. Actually, it might be better than the anime which is quite a feat considering how good the anime is.
