Default don't have wf yet but want a r2/w18 halfling

I like the wf ability to heal so was thinking a dragonmark halfling can do some nice healing as well and it does not touch the sp. So I was thinking of a solo (will group alot as well but like to be able to solo when i don't want to do a PUG group). This will be a new character on a server so 28pt build. I will try to get the few tomes I want when I can but there is nothing dependent on them. Only one that is good to get early is the int as it helps with the extra skills the build uses. Other then that the build can put up a good FW (and of course can cast alot of other spells) runn around and heal himself with the marks. He can do the traps so on solo has no need for a rogue no matter the difficulty of the traps.

I know I took only quicken and maximize for spell enhancements mainly as the plan is to use spells like Fw with those on all the time. I am not a fan of extend as many times most spells at higher level have very long durations and the extra time is not going to help. I did not take empower as I already have maximize and with the extra enhancements it costs around the same as empower. I never use enlarge as I never see the point except the off fw at archers but then just running closer with expeditios on and throwing it is not much a difference. I probably could hae taken heighten but was not sure what to take off. As a wizard I not have the sp that a sorc has, also with losing two levels to rogue, I wanted the mental and improved mental to keep my sp up. I like the spell pene and greater spell pen with the enhancements so i get a +7 from them to beat spell resist so have a much better chance expecially with the intel on this toon. I could probably take out the spell focus evocation but like it with fw.

Please some constructive feedback will be nice.

I don't know why people keep trying to make builds with Dragonmarks in them. They are a waste of feat slots and have limited or no use in level 20 content. Dragonmarks take up valuable feat slots. Dragonmarks also have limited uses per rest. Dragonmarks will also not heal you to full once you have a decent amount of hit points.

Your SPs won't be an issue as a Warforged Wizard if you play well. Besides, you can always drink potions (repair or SP) or use wands if SPs are scarce in a dungeon.

first, I said I don't have WF or would have used that as the race.

That being said why can't dragonmarks actually heal you to full. If you setup the right gear and feats the dragonmarks can heal for alot. Especially, for a non-melee character there is no reason dragonamarks cannot heal you up at level 20. I have a few toons with the dragonmarks and if setup properly then can heal for alot.

I assume you don't use them as if you did you would know how well they can heal.

Also, this was my attempt of making a WF like character that is gerat for solo without having WF. Wf can heal themselves and cast spells. The dragonmarks do about as much healing as most WF probably actually do and yet it does it without requiring the use of sp and for a wiz sp are more importatnt then a sorc so saving them is always a good thing. In fact, with this build you may not need to be as careful with your sp as wf have to save some back for healing and this toon would not.

the only thing I might change is adding insightful reflexes and take out improved mental tough.

Sure, healing amplifications can make the Dragonmarks heal for a decent amount. The main problem is they have limited uses and you have to spend AP's to increase the number of uses. The other problem is the feat slots would be better used on something else. Let's look at the numbers since you're still not convinced.

    First, feat slots...
    Dragonmarks (Halfling):
Least Dragonmark heals an average of 10.5 per cast and can be used 3 times per rest for a total of 31.5 healing done.

Lesser Dragonmark heals an average of 31.5 per cast and can be used 2 times per rest for a total of 63 healing done. Including the extra use of Least Dragonmark, the total healing done now is 105.

Greater Dragonmark heals for 150 and can only be used once per rest. The new total healing done, including extra uses of Least and Lesser Dragonmarks is 297 HP and you've used 3 feat slots.

    No Dragonmarks (Warforged):
Mental Toughness feat = 105 extra SP at 20. Reconstruct = 150 HP healed for 35 SP. Reconstruct can be cast 3 times using the 105 extra SP gained from Mental Toughness, for a total of 450 HP healed before modifiers.

If we include a second feat slot for Improved Mental Toughness, the total HP healed is 900.

A third feat slot would best be used on the Toughness feat for 22 extra HP or metamagics to improve spells.

    Now, let's look at enhancements...
    Halfling
For 10 total APs spent, you can gain four additional uses of each Dragonmark. Total healing done by all is now 1065. Remember, this also includes spending TIME to cast the Least and Lesser Dragonmarks in the middle of battle for their small amount of health restoration. If we only look at Greater Dragonmark, you are only healing for 750 HP in a fight.

    Warforged
For 10 total APs spent, you can improve your repairing done by 40%. The healing done is now 1260 without dipping into your original SP pool.

Again, Dragonmarks cost too much for their limited uses. You are missing a few metamagic feats which may be useful, and more importantly, spell focus feats for the most commonly used spells at 20. While you may think you are saving SPs, you are better off using consumables to save SPs no matter what your build is.

To clarify my statement about not being healed to full by Dragonmarks, I was comparing the Least and Lesser Dragonmarks to Reconstruct because you are spending a feat slot on a small heal that could be used to cast Reconstruct more.

Maximize does affect dragonmarks right? So that makes a halfling with dragonmarks have *some* self-healing. Not near as much as a WF obviously, but some people don't have WF or don't like them. Obviously a minmax powergamer would never roll anything but a WF or Drow for a caster... even though Drow have NO self-healing at all.

At level 20 I still use my lesser dragonmark for topups before shrining or for getting the healer up from incap, and it was very useful up to level 10 in quests. Wish I could have fit in more of the line on my build actually and I might have to consider swapping some feats out for it due to the heal scroll bug being fixed in the next update.
Please split the class forums into REAL subcategories this is a jumbled mess.
