#1: This kind of grind...
#2: Or this kind?
#1: This kind of grind...
#2: Or this kind?
They say a picture speaks a thousand words, but right now, I'd settle for a couple of dozen.
Those are not pebbles surrounding the urn filled with Human teeth. They are megaliths!
I did lithography for a bit. It's a b1tch. Grinding stones together is lots of work.
So I think he's asking is DDO supposed to be a game that you blast through content quickly with flash and bang. (#1)
Or do you sweat away with little progress after lot's of work. (#2)
They probably are going for neither. I hope they are trying to make #3.
BONGO FURY - Ghallanda - Thingfish - Wizard, Diuni - Ninja, Gheale - Angel, Dullknife - Tank, Noodlefish - Gimp, Jaquaby - Treacherous and other gimps.
I'd hope they were going for this kind.

But it's more likely the second kind.
welcome to the world of MMO's
do you ever notice that though the genre is called MMORPG
most relate to them as simply MMO
this is cause though the concept is very RPG .. the game play rarely is ...
as to the exciting fast paced grind that makes you wanna do it again because of all the cool sparkly bits
vs
the grind that seems to take forever and has little excitement after the first hour
mmmm
I remember when this game was 1 and i remember when i thought this game was 2
then sharn syndicate and sentinels made me think it was 1 again .. ... but now i am not sure ...
I dont think its 2 YET .. but update 6 will be the decider on that one ... since update 5 will have us wondering something different ....
like where did everyone go !!!
The Old Republic is pretty much going to force role playing since they designed their game that way, DDO is kind of made in the typical MMO way where the entire point of dialog is to be sped through so you can get to killing faster. I still read the dialog quest givers say though, the only thing that really stands between you and role playing is laziness!
Actually they've stated very clearly that all the classes are going to be balanced. Plus you have bounty hunters and as any Star Wars fan knows a well trained Mandolorian is a match for any Jedi Master anytime. But really this thread was about role playing in MMOs not Star Wars.
But then they would HAVE TO stray from the star wars lore then. Since anything non-jedi vs. a jedi will almost always die. They should only make Jedi attainable through long long tedious grinding so only a few will be on per server otherwise they would have to destroy the starwars lore.
I'd venture a guess at "A good game"

You don't listen well do you? Mandolorian bounty hunters are expert Jedi killers, they know exactly how to bring one down. There's also sneak attacking and tactics stealth types would use to deal with a force user and explosive ordinance a soldier would use to take one out, you can't deflect an explosion with an energy sword. So really it's not hard to imagine how they could balance this out and may I once again remind you we were talking about role playing not Star Wars.
The Office of the Exchequer. 1750 on all live servers via Pure pugging. Thank you very much to all who helped carry a gimp . (wayfinder was a soloist build)
All MMOs are grinds, the trick is finding fun people to grind with.
There is very little RP in most of them, unless you go out of your way to find it and then only play with other people there for RP.
Jedi aren't all powerful - plenty of Jedi end up dead in the movies and books without being killed by another force user.
Sorry, I have played many other MMO's......DDO is not a grind until you think you are entitled to become godly.......that's all on the person who wants all that crazy gear.
There is pretty much no grind at all taking a character from level 1-20.
A legit question, narrowed to a wrong question. I have to agree, that to get to L20 isn't a grind until you've gotten there and want all the uber gear.
But it's interesting to ask them what kind of game they want to make, in a general term.

There are so many ways to define "A good game", it just isn't a plausible answer. World of Warcraft is a good game, and it's a grindaholic. Left 4 Dead is a good game, CS, Borderlands, Half-Life, Socom(cept for confrontation), Aion, Mass Effect, Day of Defeat, S.T.A.L.K.E.R., Audio Surf, Portal, Halo, Command and Conquer, Medal of Honor, CoD(up to 4, not 5/6), Warcraft, Diablo, Starcraft, Final Fantasy, and so on for a long long time, are all good games. Based on your answer, it could mean the DEVs are trying to turn DDO into an FPS. Which I highly doubt.
Not to be rude or anything...
