Default Is WF Really a No Brainer for Soloing?

I am just getting started in DDO but I have read through these forums enough to see that WF is the hands down favorite for soloing due to its use of the repair spells for healing. This makes sense but it seems that there are some significant tradeoffs needed to get this versus going human:

    1. 5% arcane spell failure
    2. Two less build points (-2 wisdom, -2 charisma, +2 constitution)
    3. One less feat

I would think that the spell failure would be particularly troubling because this will effectively translate to -5% spell points due to spells that need to be recast. If you need to chew spell point pots, why not make them health pots?

WF certainly has some other advantages (immunities, waterbreathing) but it doesn't seem to be a no brainer.

    I am missing something?

You can take an enhancement to remove the 5% asf. -2cha is not really noticable, and con>wis. They also are immune to a lot of things.

And even if these were not true (apart the 5% fail), self healing would still make WF a no-brainer for soloing. I too thought otherwise in the days of yore, when a stack of 100 cure/repair serious & wand of critical was all you ever needed.

Summing it up, Im afraid there is no other answer than 'you'll see at higher levels'. And boy you will.

    Easy solos are
    1) WF sorc
    2) Ranger any race
    3) WF wiz
    4) Battle cleric
    5) Battle FVS

Any of these should have you soloing easy.
And if you have some plat for hirelings you can solo with any type of melee easy just drag along a hirling cleric.

    Default Thanks

    Thanks for the feedback.

I have a level 3 human wizard and a level 2 WF. I'll play them up a little more and see how it goes. I can imagine that healing a human will get very expensive.

if you post your server and your toon name that needs hireling plat someone will likely send you a few K plat which should keep you in hirelings for about 10 levels.
