Either make it so only the person that made the deathblow can pick them up.
or
Make it count if you pick one up and didn't make the kill.
One or the other.

Really they just need to go in an redo the whole system. It's not worth pointing out small fixes when the whole concept is so broken.
I refuse to believe shroud collectibles exist...they are just a myth like Sasquatch.
Seriously though, this may be one of the most broken mechanics in the game. I've always assumed there was some sort of plan that just never got completed. I could really care less though as the whole collectibles mechanic is a mess anyway I'd rather they spent development time on something else.
“If at first you don't succeed, keep on sucking till you do succeed.”
And if you could fix it so the 5th or 6th portal, kinda near the middle facing the middle doesn't drop it's shards thru the floor so you can' tpick them up...
...yeah...thanks.
well they knew people would be farming them for shards of power or crafting stuff.
SO they added a little extra thing to collect. But yeah the concept looks incomplete.
What do you get from these collectibles, anyway? I've never heard of anyone actually collecting 100 before.
The nerfing will continue until morale improves!
I suspect you simply get XP for them, which is of course a really stupid reward for something like that. But like I said, the Shroud side-quests system is not nearly complete, so they just never thought it through.
If someone wanted to test you'd have to get some helpers together and farm gnolls in part 4. One estimate had it taking under 10 hours.
Odd. For how long this has been out and yet still noone knows what they do. My guess is nothing was programmed to happen since your more likely to have a completionist build before ever accomplishing this. Sadly I haven't bothered to get the optionionals for this for quite some time now. I think only 2 of 12 characters I have can even collect them and one of those are a bank
I agree though, either that or just as with collectibles, everyone should have a chance to pick-up the item. Just one of the many oversights.
They currently give xp only for the deranged, err, I mean lucky individuals who both 'kill' a portal (with 12 people furiously swinging on one, that is a lottery unto itself!), then see/hear the item drop AND take the time to pick it up before rushing off to the next portal - that is, before someone else snags it first.
Even if they left the 'xp' reward in - which was obviously just a place holder for something else - the amount you get is an absolute joke compared to the amount of effort invested to get it. This is THE major reason most people could care less about the things.
And then there are the 'collectables' that you can't even pick up, like 'Orothon nail plating' sacks (or maybe I just didn't do the magical dance just right to qualify me as the "chosen one" to do so, in well over two hundred shroud runs with various characters). Truth be told, I can't even recall whether this item was even wanted by any of the collectors back in Meridia.
So the OP is right on the money; either remove the system entirely - maybe cutting down on lag!?!!? lol! OR make it so everyone can pick the things up, regardless of who killed what.
