I'm really concerned about the way I think they are going to do it.

I bet they are going to make us put our dragon touched armor into the alter with another suit of armor that we want it to look like with an ingredient and poof, your dragon touched armor now looks like the other armor you put in with it.

I hope this is not the extent of their creativity. I will be greatly disappointed.
What worries me is that it will be a DDO store only process or require something from the store.

I felt like resurrecting the thread with updated thoughts.
    I tried LOTRO last week.
It had outfitters and barbers. Yes, barbers, allowing you to change hairstyle and dye hair with in-game currency.
It even allowed for some minor facial tweaks, such as removing or adding moles, scars and wrinkles.
For in-game currency, on a f2p account, right after the intro instance, about a couple hours in the game.

Outfitters were even easier: preview a skin in dressing room, basically a modified inventory panel where you can try gear out on your character, down to individual cloth dyes, buy it for in-game currency and equip it in your cosmetic slot.
Again, about a couple hours in the game, for a f2p account, with no Turbine store purchase.

From what I could gather, LOTRO's engine is related to DDO's.
Tweaks that result in appearance customisation are not only possible.
    They are already there.
Hats and store-only dyes are not the only option.

A polite request to devs: please consider giving DDO in-game barbers and outfitters too.
Playing Barbie with my elven rogue will make me mellower, resulting in better game experience for everybody.
    Please give it a thought.

*Sigh* ... wouldn't it be cool?

Imagine for a minute -- if LOTRO had DDO's combat, and DDO had a bunch of LOTRO's crafting & fluff.

I'd love not only to be able to apply any skin and any mesh to any item (excluding meshes and skins unique to named items), but also to see multiple skins and meshes for named items. I, For example, like the shape of GS greataxes, but not the designs on them. Also, more helmets with horns on them please.

Oh, and if you could make hair and helms compatible, that would be great.

I hope that if they do that, they don't limit it to only DT armor. I'd hate to have to walk around with my current Quorforged Docent appearance when I could make it look like the Blademark's Docent instead.

    Why we don't need it:

    • Crafting enables players to spend hours managing their inventories
    • Crafting gives players a new grind to sink their fun time into
    • Crafting can clutter up the trade and auction houses with more trash
    • Crafting can provide endless creativity for non-players
    • I’m sure people can think of other good games where crafting is important to the MMO

    What we do need:

A better inventory system to manage collectibles
More ways to outfit successful characters
Access to the different models/colors of our random generated loot
I fixed it up a little bit.

My main point is that DDO is DDO because it isn't LOTRO, WOW, or any of those other games with a crafting system. You adventure in DDO and the focus is on how you build your character to adventure! The whole collectible thing, isn't supposed to be like crafting, its more of an award system for accomplishing deeds (in this case, collecting things). I like DDO for what it is, a fast paced, adventure oriented D&D flavored action game. This whole suggestion should be thrown into the bin along with Mounts.

I would be inclined to differ on some points.

DDO cannot probably accommodate for actual processing of resources - turning ore into ingots, leather into armour or fish/game into edibles.
But crafting itself is already there in DDO.
Applying a frost kit is crafting.
Using a guild crystal is crafting.
    Creating greensteel weaponry is crafting.
Upgrading gear to epic is crafting.

Collectable clutter is an issue though.
