    Default St00pid weapon purchase? :)

Went to do a quest with a lot of oozes in it, and since I've been on a "bane weapon" kick lately I picked up a +2 flaming great club of greater ooze bane.

Well, seemed like a good idea at the time. I quickly discovered that:
    - The oozes I was fighting were immune to fire.
    - The oozes were utterly destroying the weapon.

I think I used Muckbane for so long that I got my oozes and rust monsters mixed up. I thought that by buying a wooden weapon it would be safe. Wrong!

Since bane and everbright are both suffixes, I guess this means there are no regular weapons that are really suitable for dishing out large amounts of damage on oozes without getting damaged themselves....?

Personally I think Ooze Bane should automatically be everbright. It makes the suffix useless as it stands.

Either that or we need some craftable glass weapons...

Kills me that you can't have an everbright ooze bane.

Go with a true law or true chaos of everbright. Craftable at a relatively low level.

Are all oozes immune to fire?

Could I salvage the value of this by binding it, so at least I can use it until it gets wrecked and then repair it?

Black puddings are vulnerable to fire. And yes, if you bind it with Khyber Dragonshards, you'll at least be able to repair and reuse it if you like, though the constant repairs might get a bit pricey.

Also, the ooze bane works on living spells, which will not destroy your weapon aside from the damage they produce.

I also would have thought your club was safe.... ? Maybe Muckbane has spoiled me too. *It* doesnt take damage from them right?

I think the game suggests wooden weapons, because they're cheap.

I crafted something similar a while back while toying with the crafting system. Only slightly better than a muckbane - +1 acidtouch (or cold touch, I can't recall offhand) lesser ooze bane club.

Worked well - until it basically broke. I made a second one from a densewood club, thinking it would work better. But oddly enough, densewood has less hardness than a regular club does. Which I thought was odd.

But now I use an icy Burst maul of Everbright, and it works pretty well.

LOL - too true. When I'm on my monk its like: "Don't touch my ooze! I want to build Ki and heal myself!"

    Cheers

    Too true.

I can see the Compendium entry now:

    Race: Ooze
Natural Predators: Monk, Ranger (Specialization: Throwing Monk)
Colors: All but Burnt Sienna and "Ecru"
    <snip>

On another note: Why can't we throw Halflings?

Muckbane is made of glass, which ooze's and rusties don't eat. So yes, it's "safe."

Here, here! Oozes make the best ki builders in the game. Especially when paired with the CC Brawling Gloves. Baby oozes everywhere!

For those unfortunate enough not to know or have a monk, just pick up three or four plain wooden clubs or great clubs from a Harbor or general vendor. They cost next to nothing and can be thrown away when broken. Why carry an expensive and specialized weapon just for squishy blobs? It's not like we don't know where oozes hang out after all.

I remember someone suggesting to me to use Terror, the crystal greatsword from the IQ.

Something to do with being crystal, they won't eat it either.... .correct?

summon a Monk! Always work for me!

Jokes aside, if you get it on handwraps it will work fine even if you dont have monk levels. Clumsy punches and kicks are slow and lame, tho.
    I don't care...

I've always thought it strange that wooden weapons were not ooze proof. Their damage is acid, is it not? Wood is not affected by acids. At any rate, since they are relatively fragile, I finally gave up the Muckbanes and found a couple of Everbrights so I could bash oozes and rust monsters. Now rust monster...those I am afraid of. I have to carry extra armor and even an outfit for facing the rusties.
What do you mean a -6 armor class is no good any more?

Hm, I though the wooden suggestion was for rust monsters, since wood don't rust?

Glass is good for both ooze and rust monsters, as it doesn't corrode and rust respectively. So is everbright.

To the OP, it's ok. I tend to get them mixed up too. Just get an everbright item. A greater ooze bane weapon is great against oozes, at least until the oozes melts it down.

I actually have a +5 vicious greataxe of everbright... of course it splits them but it kills them so fast it almost doesn't matter.
