    Default Favor Soul/Rogue

Was looking at another thread this morning that discussed a Cleric/Rogue build. Got me thinking if a FvS/Rog build might be more effective.

This is what a put together. It's a 32-pt build btw. The main weaknesses I see are late spell progression (don't get raise dead till 13!) and a low concentration (is this critical at higher levels?).

Goal is to be able to serve as primary healer and handle traps. I think the build would work best as secondary healer due to late spell progress) and trapsmith but should have no problem serving as sole healer in a party.

Is the UMD worth it? Or would those skill points be better used elsewhere? Was also thinking drow or halfling could be good.

    Thanks for the feedback.

    Default I already noticed

Oh and yes, I noticed that I put Favor Soul in the title. Silly typo.

Why bother with UMD if you're FVS anyhow?

Well, being able to use arcane wands & scrolls is certainly not a bad thing (Displacement, Stoneskin, Haste, etc.), as is bypassing the UMD requirement for equipment. But if you do take UMD, you should max it out, even if it means sacrificing trap skills at higher levels; or take a +2 INT tome so you can maintain all three skills.

I was thinking the same. Is the benefit of being able to get around UMD restrictions on weapons and being able to use arcane scrolls and wands worth it? I like the idea and it fits with the overall goal of being very self-sufficient as well as a solid support character in a party.

Good point, I'd certainly take a +2 Int tome as soon as I could. Don't have one banked at the moment but might get one by the time I roll this toon up. I'd like to try to avoid sacrificing trap skills as this seems more central to the build than UMD.

The general consensus is UMD is one of if not THE single most useful skill in the game, to the point where a lot of builds take a rogue splash just so they can have max ranks in it. If anything, you're being weird for valuing trap skills more than UMD.

UMD is primarily for healing and second buffs. As a FS he has the healing part covered.

There is more to UMD than just heal scrolls.
