I will admit, I definitely think it's silly to use the term "astral diamonds" which are apparently a higher form of platinum, and not have any way to trade said platinum to get them. In fact, I'd be rather happy if they made AD available in that manner, 'cause it makes bloody sense. But, it is Turbine's choice, and having people pay for extra-shiny goodies with real money also makes sense in the "free to play" model. If you don't want to pay more than you already have for two extra of each bind point an a nice blue paint job, then don't; let other people in your guild do it, or live with the plat-bought flavor.

What, do you do nothing else for your guild? If you're VIP, contribute some of the monthly TP you get to AD costs. If not, heck, chip in to buy the plat ship so your guild gets a discount on the AD cost of the other one. I wouldn't expect every last member to be able to chip in for AD, so those that can't would be encouraged to chip in some other way. We still don't know how much ADs cost yet, so a lot of complaints are a bit unsteady--heck, for all we know, it's 100 AD to 1 TP! Most likely not, yeah, but nobody KNOWS yet. Once we find out it's the opposite, then you can come bash my door down and beat me up.

because some bean-counter did a cost/benefit analysis and figured out that they'll make more money on DDO store pots while people grind for the ESoS than if the ESoS was just made available in the store

I agree with what was stated before. It is kinda lame that the cool kids that spend real cash or spent hours/days grinding for TP get the cooler ships.
Just like I thought it was kinda lame that, at the high school I went to, most of the kids that drove had beamers, mercs, and other high-priced cars while us poor kids from outside of town had pickups and rustbuckets. It was kinda lame. But, no one said life was fair and I still loved my ride.

But, how does that effect anyone outside their guild other than if you PvP them?
-If one of the buffed Guildies is running in a pug with you, he's buffed out and ready to help.
-You never have to see your neighbor's (other Guild's) house/boat. So unless he invites you on board, he can't brag about it, show it off, or polish it in his driveway to rub it in your face.

So who cares?

If someone starts bragging they have the cooler ships you can do one of three things:
1. Remind them their an idiot for spending a bunch of real money. (as far as you know)
2. Congratulate them and ask for a tour. (Cause you and your guild don't/won't have them)
3. Thank them for spending money to keep the game running just like Turbine wanted them to.

I'll go with a combination of 2 and 3 myself. As, I won't ever get to see the medium/large store-bought ships otherwise.

I wouldn't worry about too many buffing crew. At higher levels I'd personally be all about having things like the crafting altars, mail, res point, and bar in my ship.

Edit: Just fyi, I could care less what either of my small guilds has as a ship. As long as we have a guild chest. We're good to go.

Really? Because if I had my choice between spending 500 TP on a ship, or spending 500 TP on the ability to grind for parts for a ship, I would choose the ship every time.

I can only hope that you are not serious. Ship or not there is a serious lack of endgame content. I would gladly pay for anything that brings more diversity to the endless cycle of reincarnations and gives capped characters something NEW to do as opposed to rehashing good but old burnt out stuff.

Lack of end-game content is an entirely different matter, and one I hope gets addressed. However, I don't see why airships would have to be attached to quest content...especially specific quest content.

Unless of course the quest involved stealing an airship. That might be fun.

Edit: True story. Every ship, boat, starship I've ever got in a PnP game was stolen.

Bah you guys with the grind for TP solution aren't thinking straight!

Im just gonna find some guy with a CC invite him to my guild make him an officer, and give him plat and devil scales and whatever the hell the he wants to buy the ship for my guild, then boot him. There problem solved, it will feel like I'm a plat seller or something. (All trades on my end will happen after ship is bought).


But seriously, I have had my reoccurring monthly payment going since head start. I am pretty insulted that it will not be enough to be able to get ADs, I must now pay extra or wait large amounts of time for my 500 a month TP to accumulate or grind TP. I wish I had known I would have to have TP to get the best ship, I woulda saved more TP.
