lol whats with the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle?
You want the Devs to develop Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle Armour skins?![]()
Fair enough...![]()
So in everything, do unto others as you would have them do unto you.
Cannith: Arqa - Celduin - Gnossos - and others.
if they go ahead with this, i can personally guarentee a swarm of players on all servers with absolutely no diversity at all. just for a second think about the overused "Drizzt" name variations. people dont care at all if someone else has the same name, or visual appearance. so you will get everyone looking for 2 or 3 specific badazz armors, and thats all you will see. i think the OP forgets that generally speaking, people are stupid.
Eh... I must admit I loved hearing the different sides of the argument.
On one side, one user moans "omg, they're going to make lag worse with their silly customisations".
On the other one, another user replies "omg, they're going to create an army of clones with their silly customisations".
I would be inclined to say either of you gents might be far from truth.
Wise money says, both.
...
First of all, to be quite frank, I couldn't care less about the army of clones.
They want to recreate their favourite pant-wetting hero?
More power to them.
I am not going to stand in the way to their fun.
Second, I want the cake. And I'd like to eat it.
I'd like to make my pink, mauve or mould green +5 mithral whatever marginally less unsightly.
Likewise, I won't stand anybody to stay in my way to my fun.
Third, the argument about few good pieces people want lacks substance.
Most desirable pieces in DDO actually look bad.
And good-looking ones, nobody wants because they have subpar stats.
I could outfit most of my rangers and elves with drow hunter armour because it's just very mundane +4 studded leather.
It's good looking - as general consensus goes - but it won't typically last you beyond lvl 10 or so.
Robes, the most desirable non-unique piece of gear on evasion builds are hit and miss.
Because they are random.
With current end-game gear we already get an army of clones.
A badly dressed, teal-coloured army of clones.
With appearance customisation we'd get marginally more variety.
More variety, even of the marginal kind, is good on my book.

In case the devs are still looking at this, here's the degree of customization on the DT that would satisfy most if not all players:
1) We can choose any underarmor, save for those that would imply that the armor is a heavier class than it really is. Can also choose any color scheme on the underarmor
2) We can choose any overarmor, save for those that would imply that the armor is a heavier or lighter class than it really is. IE; Leather can only look like another light armor, Breastplate can only look like another medium armor, and Fullplate can only look like another heavy armor. Most people would be satisfied with Leather being able to look like any Leather, Breastplate being able to look like any Breastplate and Fullplate being able to look like any Fullplate, but not me. I put on a Hide armor for kicks about a week ago. It was the Owlbear variant, and I fell in love with it. It was exactly what a Barbarian was supposed to look like. Allowing my DT to take on the form of an Owlbear Hide armor would please me greatly, and there is no doubt that there are some other players who think one kind of armor looks really cool but never wear it because it's not as functional
3) The DT design actually looks really cool, and I don't think many players would object to other overarmors being redesigned with them. However, we need a lot more color schemes to go with the design. (Especially the monks. Oh, those poor monks.) Popularly requested is Black/Gold, Black/Silver, Black/Red, Silver/Gold, Gold/Silver....but you should let us come up with our own customized schemes.
Additionally, if you consider customizing Greensteel Appearance, I have already posted some good alternate appearances for Greensteel Helms. Also, I like the head on Greensteel Dwarven Axes, could you mirror that head and make it the head for Greensteel Greataxe please?
Actually I was going to say the same to you Have you played no other MMO besides this one?... I've played lots of MMO's the more customization possible the more variety of looks and styles their will be... Not to say there wont be 10 people running around with a pink mohawk and spikey black armor, but right now there are ZERO people running around with EITHER a pink mohawk OR spikey black armor...
Right now everyone looks like a randomly generated NPC out of a 10 year old RPG like Morrowind...

Just don't limit the customization to DT armor. We lower folks who have to wonder what our next level of armor will look like want love too.I just went through 5 different sets of +2 full plate (half drops, half from AH) before finding two reasonably acceptable ones to equip my human paladin and dwarf cleric. I dread having to do this again at level 3 if I'm still as picky about my paladin's looks. I'm relatively immune to caring about most of my chars wearing bad looking armor for stats, and some have gotten really lucky, but I'm feeling particular about the paladin looking powerful and virtuous while slaughtering kobolds and stealing their stuff.
On the topic of dyes and making them available via an in-game method, I wonder how many of the current collectibles could make a reasonably believable source of dye colors? The collectibles system already allows one collector to take multiple types of item and one type of item to go to multiple collectors (eberron shards, for instance). So what if you could turn in certain existing collectibles to a collector in exchange for dye pots?
If they're not rebuilding the current mesh system to something completely different in the process, they could perhaps also have an object with particular meshes on it that you could acquire the one(s) you want and combine it with your armor in a new crafting object (Armorsmith's Forge, perhaps?) similar to the stone of change function, resulting in the existing mesh being replaced with that mesh. If the meshes are simple database values rather than something more complex, this might work to allow in game look changes while utilizing systems the players are already familiar with. Might not need a dye system if you could purchase a "red armor style #32 overmesh" or a "blue armor style #32 overmesh" directly with such a crafting manner.
That's not to say I'd be opposed to seeing something even more flexible than that, but it's a starter idea.![]()

Want to remain guildless or solo, but still want to take advantage of the guild renown system?

I realize for the upper levels because pretty much everyone has to wear the same items, diversity is the objective. But for the levels before you get there, it's getting rid of ugly that's the objective. There are several interesting armor sets at lower levels, but also some very ugly ones (obviously, what counts as ugly and what counts as interesting is a very individual taste, but we don't know what we get before we get it in the draw). As I said, I went through five sets to find two +2 full plate armors that I liked. So I'd love to be able to pick from the ones I liked to make a look that I was happy with. Even better if I could craft a look that fit my vision of my toon and carry it over as I upgrade to +3, +4, and beyond.
The idea would be not to have to wear something ugly OR identical to everyone else just to get a stat you needed. They should be able to accomplish both objectives as long as they don't limit this change to DT. And this thread also of course embraces Icy Rainment, Minos Legens, and some other non-DT but likewise "everyone must wear it" endgame armor.
Sounds good and all, but with non-DT armors, you should be limited to overmeshes of the same armor type. A Hide should not look like a Breastplate, nor should Brigandine look like Fullplate. I'm just saying they should enable all options for DT because, hey, you're customizing it to every extent anyways.

I'd like to politely point out meshes and textures get re-used through different armour types.
If a player wants his char's robes to look like scale mail over padded vest, or leather straps over chain mail, more power to him: it's harmless enough.
What chars look is really only a matter of aesthetics.
PvP factor is marginal, so you don't have to gauge your foe from his clothes.
PvE you can MyDDO if you really need to know his AC.
Also: armour type itself is pointless in DDO. Robes could give higher AC/DR than full plate.
Limiting overmeshes to specific armour types would only cramp customisation options.
