    I completely support this idea.

Let's take a look at Lotro. In lotro each and every character has 2 different type of slots for each armor piece. One slot is for the real item you want for effect and stuff. The other type of slot is just for looks. So any item you put into these slots is the item which you see your character wearing, but you still retain effect from the item you are actually wearing.

Dear Turbine, tell me why is it so hard to implement the very same system in DDO? I though Lotro and DDO runs on the same engine (Lotro just have slightly updated version)...

EDIT after reading of the thread:
You guys say, we need item preview. Guess what... Lotro already have this feature for long time.

I believe there are certain limitations like armor type must be similiar etc.In other words you can't have the looks of fullplate and be wearing robes for effect.

But the end result is you look the way you want and get the effect you want, and you don't have everyone running around looking the same.
Actually it has this feature before that expansion. I was playing Lotro for month or two before the expansion was even announced. So it's incredibly old tech!

    Default Crests

I'd like to incorporate crests (self made or premade) on shields and armor. How hard could it be to go to an armorer or painter and have them put YOUR CREST on a shield?
Krimsonrayne -Ultimate Lord of Shadows on Orien server.
Using -Ethan Hunt build -Assassin III, 900+ HP versatile, survivalist, high dps, str build.
Build presented in video format. Long Live R.O.G.U.E.

Now, that would be harder to implement then stuff we are talking about. Because it will mean they have to add some new graphics and mechanic for that. But to be able to have one piece of armor which you looted somewhere and you like the look) just for the looks (and have it in appearance slot) and the other piece of armor for the effects (in actuall equipment slot) is not that hard (check Lotro, it's there for years).

In the context of a Fantasy Medieval World - of course you would be able to find a Blacksmith or Artisan to emboss or paint your Coat of Arms / Crest on your Shield and Armour.

In the context of 3D Games Programming - of course it is not hard at all, it just requires a couple of weeks to a months work from the Art Department and a few weeks work from the Coders - it would be easy to do.

Hope Turbine bring Customisable Shield and Armour Crests to DDO too.

Just came across this video on Youtube:
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v5JaJ...eature=channel

    Turbine video regarding LoTRO.
Basically, it's most of what we're asking for in this thread already in LoTRO - more models; dyes; appearance tabs; etc.

Except this video is 3 years old.
    So.... where's the DDO love???

    Hi'a Aestor!

I agree, when you are serious (and not lazy) developer, then this feature is really about one dedicated artist which will make the templates in 2 or 3 weeks, and one programmer who will add the GUI and write some DB code to let it actually happen. But unfortunately it's not the case of Turbine, just look at the rate at which they produce really new things for DDO, not just reskin / rehash old stuff.

For me, all I need to be happy with character looks customisation are the appearance slots just like in Lotro, that's good place to start. Sure, later you can add stuff like dyes / cloaks with emblems / etc etc etc and everyone will be happy.

This is a feature long overdue.

Like other posters have said most game have a preview to see how it will look at the very least.

I will go for function over form every however.
My real forum Join date is July 2007. Maybe one day someone will develop the awsome technology to fix this currently unfixable bug.

Thanks sooo much for posting this Aerendil - great video - and is exactly what DDO needs.

I fully agree with that, do this and not stupid guild system(guild points are falling down, you can use items only with some guild level(what people witch dont wanna be in guild)) and change TWF for not doing 11 actions but only 10 now for no lags (buy better servers than for no lags) and aim right targets witch want to improve, why new 5lvl quests, we need more 20 level quests (if 2nd true reincarnation you are close to unable to leveling on 20lvl)

and pls if you are not able to do good beta test, hire some people witch can do it, this is not first time when happened this !!! what happened yesterday and day before

I am playing DDO from begining(beta version) first on Europe servers and now here, game is evolving, sometimes in good dimensions, sometimes to bad, but i trust if you will think, game will evolve to right direction

    am with you

LOTRO has had this feature since the Moria expansion, and the implementatio, is quite simple, you have 2 slots, one for looks, and the other for the effect.

Exactly. I've even been hoarding up junk armor that looks cool on the hope that one day they will implement this.

I still want the ability to dye (paint?) the armor pieces different colors, but am on board with an armor appearance slot.

Need dyes if only so we can make the shield or whatever match the armor.
