    Well said, OP.

As a first step, they could at least provide limited dyes to change the color of DT gear.. that would provide choices for the primary armor of a third or more of the characters at end-game and only have to deal with a limited set of armor skins.

I like the LOTRO idea of adding an "image slot" and an "effect" slot for gear.

Agreed. Long, I've worn my +5 full plate just because it looked nice and unique. Now, I'm just walking with a Plate of the Defender. I've noticed how many there are... I feel like a clone, same for my Levik's shield.

See the Halfling Sorceror with her orange robe of power! Gee they even have matching hats!! (What!? they are not all wearing Minos Legens, they must be gimped!)

Wouldnt it be nice if the diversity and individuality of appearance Turbine advertises really existed in DDO. But im sorry Turbine it doesnt... your Dungeons and Dragons game doesnt look like that!
In that spalsh screen, I've seen all those helmet BUT the one with the horn in the center that the human in the back is wearing and the green one the halfling up front is wearing.

My WF FvS looks very much like that WF. If anything, I wish they'd do away with all the clothiness of the named docents (or all docents for that matter). It just doesn't look very good and I think there should be more difference between the bodies. I can imagine the Docent of Defiance being one of the more awesome looking items on an adamantine bodied WF.

All of that being said, yes there should be the ability to change some of the looks a bit, and at the very least a preview button or something. Named pulls I can see being limited to a very small amount of variance, but the crafted/random ones should be much more open to design freedom. I mean after all, who would craft their hard earned item to be JUST LIKE someone else's?

    Cool

Bump - Because Turbine really should do something about this - preferably in Mod 6 or 7.

    Thanks!

There have been times where i've seen 5 people in the same bank wearing armor or robes that looked exactly the same. And people should not be terrified to buy armor at the AH because "well, there's no preveiw. it's probably fugly." i doubt it's that hard to create new armors and armor layers, or to put them in the game. or at least put a preveiw in so we'll know whether we're willing to put up with looking bland for that +5 enhancement bonus, or whatever.

I would have to agree, It happened to me. I bought amor for my Paladin and looked like I was going to a wedding, except I was wearing the wedding dress???
Maybe put a augment slot on the attire for the abilities that are exchangable and leave the look selection to us. Its downright sadding when you buy something you need and it looks terrible.

Absolutely excellent idea. That is exactly what I would like to see added to DDO. The ability for us to choose the armours abilities through some form of basic crafting - abilities that are already available ofcourse, such as +5 Enhancment, Spearblock, Fire Guard, Heavy Fort etc etc. And then allow us to choose the appearance to suit our taste / character.

Yep... I completly agree. Even worse when you go to sooo much work to get your Epic Armour, and find One, you dont like its appearance and Two, you look the same as everyone else wearing that Epic Armour.
    Its just crappy.

Thanks for your support on this matter everyone!

Ok, so you've been playing for several months now. This song has been sung. For at least a couple of years.

Yes, the appearance of the armor defines your character.
Yes, I would like to see something done about it.
Yes, your character looks like a sheep. "Smithers, release the hounds of Xoriat to round up the herd."

No, the appearance of the armor does not actually affect your character. Whether or not it accentuates your fighters muscles or makes you sorcerer's a$$ jiggle will not, in any way shape or form, truly affect your game play.

No, you cannot expect this to change anytime soon. Devs are too busy nerfing. Maybe the formula is Find something everyone has or wants (ie GS weapons/items) and nerf the Hell out of it but it will cost more ingredients to make THEN give them armor customization to take their mind off the nerf.

Sometimes you just have to wear the armor that looks like **** to gain the effects on it rather than worry about if it makes you look fat. Its that or you can keep spending billions of gold until you find one you like and hope the halflings don't point and laugh as one uses your but as a rear view mirror.

Only /signed with an 'X' because it will either never happen or not any time soon.
Fill one hand with Hope and one with S*** and see which one fills up first.

    Until then...

Yes, but I think thats a compromise - sacrificeing appearance for abilities - that players should not have to make in an "AAA - Quality MMO" that Turbine purports to be a developer of.

So I want them to do something about it and do something about it now, or soon. Hence this thread

But yeah I can understand your pessimism, and it is funny!

lol Especially the Antigravity Cat - did you see the Award Winning Animation on the Theme of the Antigravity Cat?
I can probably dig up a link if ya missed it.

Obviously this tech is ready for DDO in soem form, since you can click the various DDO store hats and helmets to change the look of your equipped helmet.

Ultimately, I'll wear whatever works best for my avatar, but **** if sometimes I don't get tired of my dwarven fighter's armor looking like it's got a harness for a child leash on it.

Also I wouldn't mind flaming staves that actually flame, like axes and swords do. And weapons that don't scale to the character. I built a greataxe-wielding halfling barbarian, only to find that my greataxe was not really huge compared to the character.

I sympathise with ya K0ukla because I am in exactly the same situation.

Yep - This is exactly the problem I am talking about, that characters end up wearing Armours with Appearances they do not like because of the abilities of the armour. Thus every single player is straight jacketed into a
uniform appearance in order to get the abilities they need for their character to advance or be viable at end game.

There is little or no choice in this situation. And no freedom for us to visualise our characters in the game world the way we, the players, imagine them to be.

Appearance and Abilities should NOT be tied together.
So in everything, do unto others as you would have them do unto you.

/signed The devs know from purchases of hair dyes and hair styles that players will pay for it, so hopefully some type of modification to skin/colour of armour will happen soon. Great job illustrating the point wtih your pics OP.
