I think that if a guild is disbanded the guild airship should appear flying over the marketplace, burst into flame and then crash into Searing Heights.

    But that's just me

I hope I'm not repeating what someone else said here, but my 2cp are:

Just make sure that when you join a guild, that the leader is a good guy or an established leader. My guess is that none of the well-known leaders of established guilds will /ragequit over something stupid, and I sure know that MY guild leader is a level-headed chap that won't completely screw his guildies should he choose to quit one day. (at least not like that...most likely it would be through judicious usage of grease-clickies and/or rust monsters )

Not too tough, IMO, to simply make sure that the guild leader is someone level-headed...if not, join a different guild, or create a new one.

if free to play is the way we intice new players then not allowing them to form there own guilds with other free to play players without charging them money to do so then we instead throw them at the feet of the people who hate them the most ... people who have been paying for this game for the longest time ....

i have lots of friends that are (or where cause now they dont want to play the game cause of update 5 bs changes) free to play or premium ....

i mean there are just as many vets that dont know what to do with a lvl 20 character as there are free to players that dont have a clue ...

its just the obvious forum mentality i am playing up in my comment.

Honestly, I hope the airships cause TONS of in game drama and ragequitting. Then maybe Turbine will look into the system and realize that its not worth the hassle to have it mean something.

Guilds in DDO have ALWAYS just been a matter of social status/pride/friends/etc and never meant anything in game. U5 is changing that and I think its a huge step in their transition to being like every other MMO.

The problem with any mmo and especially DDO is this

the person who is leader today will not be leader tomorrow

turbines changes often cause more stress and hate for the game then anything ...

as i stated in my example of what happened to me over the last 4 years with guild changes left and right

all of them where level headed good people ... some take off leave the game leave someone else in charge that person gets what he feels is screwed by turbine and screws the whole guild for not leaving with him.

since the problems like this are always caused by turbine they should have thought its effects on guild housing through before implementing it ....

and still not one dev even stating if there is gonna be a fail safe put in ... if they dont think its a valid concern ... but there are now two threads with tons of people who agree they can see how this turns into drama city causing many people to quit the game.

if there goal is to allow the drama and not care about who leaves the game because of it ... that is fine ... but i wont be a part of it ... first time i get screwed by someone else and i am out for good ...

turbine doesn't care about preventing drama when it is not hard to fix ... then when it comes i leave ... and i just might be jerk enough to disband a guild when i leave (prolly not cause i hate turbine not the people who play the game generally speaking.)

I have a simple solution. as a former guild leader who took a break and came back. I was an officer and still am. To get what you want make your own guild, and stop whimpering. Though you may have issues there do you know you roles enough. can you handle the star. I hate the star personally, I do my thing, and let others do theirs.
Also if you want to resort to name calling your not leadership quality or even officer material. I would boot you from my guild if I ever found you in it, but we dont recruit so I wont worry even if you managed to get on my server.

Your comment seemed like it was on the other side of the tracks, like you meant for F2P and premium to get away from the vets, but if that's not what it meant I'll delete my post.

its not what i MENT but it is what i implied cause its a general view not one i tend to agree with but its the norm of attitudes toward f2p (even though many dont know that alot of experienced vets are now premi players)

First off ... you have no clue who i am or what i am capable of if someone has partied with me ... been in a raid i ran ... followed my advice on a character build .... and still didnt thnk i was officer matterial .. .then i wouldnt want to be in there guild anyway ...

i am one of the most experienced PLAYERS i know .... not being egotistical ... still lots of room for improvement ... and not everyone agrees with my min maxing or my build or mission strats ... and that is there choice to make ...

but i have been playing since i could get a copy of the game ... for the first 3 years i worked for myself and never had to put in more then 1 hr a day to make my paycheck ... had no real life outside of work so i played this game endlessly ... i have seen more people come and go from this game and have been leader of big guilds and officer in even bigger guilds ....... I lead a 30 man strong elite guild (all top players no goofing all zerging never wipe cept in early dragon and titan before strats where figured out) was members of some of the largest guilds on adar .. and definately two of the most competitive (questors and Coalition in late year one early year 2 where big competitors for beating raids ... think we where third to beat DQ raid on adar in questors maybe second believe light horse beat it before us but really this isnt a history lesson)

was an officer in both ..

there isnt a mission in the game i cannot lead ... some i dont like to lead like new invasion and sins .... but nothing i cannot lead ....

so to say you would never have me and that i am not officer material ... jokes on you bud...

After my last big guild i decided i didnt want to be an officer of a guild cause i dont want to be part of the drama ... and even though i am in a great guild with alot of great players I still pug 80% of the time ... just cause i find it more challenging to play with people who have no clue and still beat the missions .... while many others cry about bad f2p players i simply carry them through the missions.

now that you know a bit more about my history in the game .... i am sure you still no nothing of my ability.

the star isnt the problem ... the problem is the dictatorship and expenses that cost the members and officers in the chance that they end up with issues that cause a leader to disband a guild after spending millions in plat ........and now even TP

what happens when someone pays for 800 AD in TP (prolly gonna net about 20$ us)

    then what?

if you spend 20$ cash and next day find your kicked from guild ... are you gonna be happy about it?

if so please join our guild ... i would be happy to take your money and send you on your way.

honestly if anyone cannot see how there could be major flame issues that spill onto forums with people calling people out and general hate filling the servers over these kinds of issues then maybe its time to take the freaking blinders off....

This entire issue could be avoided by installing a mechanic into the guild controls that takes 5 people to disband a guild.

A guild leader would have to choose an imediate successor (which already is the case) and then flag 3 officers to be a panel. If the guild leader hits the disband button, the successor and the 3 other members on the panel would all have to agree on the disband before the entire guild is wiped out. This would prevent the /ragedisband scenario. They could also put a timer on the disband where it needs to take 48 hours before the guild is completely wiped out. That way if the entire panel /ragequits, the seniority member gets leadership and has the ability to run the guild if they so choose.

This gives the successor and the others on the panel time to say "hey, if you want to leave the guild, thats fine, we have no issue taking over leadership from here."

All you Star Trek nerds will understand this is like being an "auto destruct" mechanism on a ship, where the captain, first officer, engineer, and some others have to confirm before the ship can be put into autodestruct mode.
