THF, opinions wanted

Just thought I'd ask here. Been wanting to make a new toon for ages, and THF has taken my fancy. Wanted something that does a decent amount of DPS, and that won't be getting smashed or be a healing sponge in battle (barbarian comes to mind). Wanted to know what you guys would recommend, looked at a few builds here on the forums but none seem to fit what I'm after.

Can't be a WF.
Has to be something the casual player can accomplish (not a build that's based around raid loot)
Greensteel is an option, though with the raid loot, dont base it around it.

People have told me that for what I want a paladin is going to be the best option, then on the other hand people tell me a dwarf barb...which I'm not too keen on.

With the new changes coming in U5 for dwarven axes I'd go Dwarf Fighter myself. That gives you the option of going Kensai with a greataxe or going as a Stalwart Defender with a shield and dwarven axe.
