Crossbows can be good if you have Holy, Of Pure Good, Holy Burst or Flametouched Iron on them.
...even then, they really do seem pretty crappy.
But, what about a new build with rogue mechanic 6/wiz 14? Since rogue mechanic now makes int modifier the damage modifier for repeating crossbow, AND the normal sinergy between rogue and wizard...
Am I wrong or did they just end up taking the int damage out of mech 1? ...

14 Wizard levels. What can you really do? Can't cast, don't have sp.
6 rogue levels... Why not just 20?
At level 20, I'd rate your power at that of a level 16 character.
On a wizard, don't ever use crossbows. You have enough sp to do useful things; even when you're not in full use, you can always heal WF. Trying to deal any useful damage with a crossbow is going to severely cripple your casting ability.
