Perhaps one if the reasons for these changes were to make quests HARDER, as everyone keeps asking for.
The way to do that across the board is reduce the power on items. Raising the inherent difficulty of the quest by adding more mobs, more hp, or more saves hurts the average player much more than the powergamers. Usually those types of changes only slow down the powergamers but can be a stalling point for the average player. While there should be no automatic success rate stacking things against them just forces a grind... and that can turn players off.
Also people are crying "this is just to get people to buy pots from the store". Hmmm, last time I checked there was no monthly SP pot requirement for casters. How about possibly changing things up and finding a way to complete the quest less SP intensive. Granted that will slow you down, but then again speed vs. resources is always the big concern. Which is more important to you, your time or your plat. If the answer is the former then you are already committing to spending plat to win faster so why complain about an "easy button" being taken away from you.
Oooooohhhhh, thats what it is... its an easy button for the newbie, but for YOU its a requirement. Check... my bad...
Sorry to have interrupted the ranting, please continue.
People use potions for stuff? I think the only one I've used in the last 3 months was an elite VoD. And no, I have neither the bauble nor the ERSS (or for that matter, the unERSS). I do use the korthos necklace click occasionally. That extra 50 SP makes all the difference baby.
In a meeting right now, but I wanted to pop in here and share some news.
We're reverting the changes to these two items. Your Mysterious Bauble and Epic Spell Storing Ring will function just as they always have!

These items are not needed, and at first I didnt understand the reasoning for the nerf...it makes alot more sense if you consider they may be introducing more of these style of items to the game. Lower the current ones so that you can add more options later without adding height to the tower. Maybe the loot list of the new zone has a new clicky, maybe a future upgrade has one planned. If you really think its all a play to get more sales of spell pots, the solution is simple...dont buy pots from turbine. As for stress on the healers...blaming the healer is a knee jerk reaction you should be used too, if its really a problem, make sure you call them a bleeder so they know where the problem really lies.
Besides, if im in a zone running out of mana, the first thing i do is check my strat, not my supply of mana pots and clickies. Change to more effective spells, increase defenses, use terrain to advantage, trust in your teams melee, etc. These are far more effective means of maintaining mana stores. Let your leader know theres an issue and figure out how to counter it...such is the way of dnd.

I am afraid I have to agree, this is probably their reasoning.
And to make it worse both are recent additions (the Epic version - not the Ring of course!) - so who decided they were over powered?
Do we think it was the developers who created them as they are, or the Marketing 'types' who won the argument to nerf them as they were competing with selling pots from the Turbine store?
