Default I made a Squelch List, today.

Running Raiyum Normal with five who had never completed it, a little while ago.

I gave verbal instructions on how to avoid pulling aggro both verbally and in typed chat (multiple times). The two who strayed away from the main group and were killed were left behind. When I asked one if he could read English, he mysteriously disconnected.

When the four who had stayed with me (and who were still alive) and I finished the quest, I thanked everyone both verbally and in Party Chat, finished out and recalled to Zawabi's Refuge. After which Kittib (not his real name, for the record) informed me that he'd squelched me and told me where I should take my soul, after death.

If you're new, listen to or read the directions the veteran in the group provides. If you don't, be prepared to miss out on the chests at the end. If you do miss out on the chests after repeatedly refusing to follow directions, don't expect me to go out of my way to enable you. If you do and are insulted anyway, your Squelch will only find me amused.

Yeah a lot of people can't seem to follow simple instructions.

No wonder why casual failed to work: It didn't aim for players that have difficulty fallowing directions. To be honest, that would make casual fine...but unfortunately, its not fine. Not the way it is. Maybe on update 12 you'll see the all new casual with brand-new "No-fallowing-directions-required!" gameplay!

Ah we are all new once. Heck I am still new. But you can only blame yourself when you refuse to follow directions and get in over your head, you should not expect the party to chance a wipe to save you. Get Rez cakes from DDO store, you will use alot of them if you play like this.

I had a Gwyn's Stand pug with my level 7 Cleric. We had a new rouge and I was helping him find the trap boxes. A lone Dwarf ran up the stairs and got killed by the trap. I used my rez scrolls, which are not gaunteed I might add, fill him up on hit points, and he runs right back to the same spot. I rez him again but told him the scrolls are not cheap so stay with the party. All he had to say was, "I will pay you back for the scrolls if that is an issue." /squelched took care of that headache.

But PUGs get a bad name. I have been running mostly PUG since I came back. I have had mostly good times with them and have met alot of new people. It is a great way to make contacts, and find the bad apples. So you can do higher end stuff with the right people later down the road.

I still really enjoy showing new players through most quests. I'm aware my start date looks like I'm new too but I've played since before launch in EU so I know what I'm on about.

If in future vets want to give their time to help may I make one suggestion?

As soon as you've realised the group's "new" and assuming you choose to stay ASK if they're willing to accept advice and pointers. I've always found this side-steps problems later. As was said above some people would rather not find out the whole quest as they go through it. Believe it or not everyone doesn't have the game commited to memory yet and want to discover it themselves.

I really wish someone would invent a safe memory-wiping gizmo, imagine being able to forget the whole of DDO and start again. What WW would look like all over again totally new!

So, the point of the post: Ask if the group wants "Vet" help before giving it, it helps, trust me.

You cant heal stupid, and ignorance is stupid's big brother. A stupid person can learn not to behave a certain way because somewhere inside they usually desire not to be stupid. Actively ignorant people not only do not have the desire to learn, they actively avoid it and aggressively resist being lead in any way.

Choose to be pacifist and sensitive, thats your choice, but remember the ignorant ones wont care anyhow,

I certainly hope that Op's squelcher made Op's list as well. players like that need to find a different game to play, their presence is like a greifing landmine to others.

Hear hear.....I've been pugging on my cleric from the outset and this is my first toon to level 15. Try and think back to when you first entered the orchard, or the vale.....remember how exciting it was..... now overlay that with one of your party members yelling at you "don't go that way" and "we're going to do x, x and x and that will bring us to the finish where we x" ..... I love doing the higher quests with vets, but a select few just completely take the fun out of it.

My point is (write this down ppl ) "It's all about the journey, not the destination"

I know right? Deep karma maaaaan

i got squelched by a cleric for calling him a blatent blundering imbecil. then dropped him in lava and wand healed the quest as a ranger.

keep at it, people do listen (like me) who depend on knowledgable vets for all the ins and outs of a quest and situation. keep at it

When I am in a quest that I know have optionals that make them take FOREVER, I make sure the group is aware of if we are doing them or not. I seen a group LFM up for tears looking for min. Wisdom. I know they are going for the optionals as well. I for one just want to zerg that quest, get the quick xp and move on, but as it has been said not everyone has ran these quest 1000 plus times. For them it is all new. So I try to ask every party how they want to do it, or if there is anyone not familar with the quest. However when the party agrees to one way, and someone does something else that can be a pain.

Default For the sake of clarity.

This was a pug I'd joined last. We had no Rogue and no Arcane, so it was a bit difficult on the Cleric. After I'd joined, the player who had assembled the party asked if anyone had completed the quest, before. The only other party member who had completed it before had been left dead for most of the quest.

My response in Party Chat: "I guess I've done it a few hundred times. I've done it solo on my main in eight minutes."

After which, I was asked to lead by the party member who had assembled the party, and agreed to do so.

Example of my instructions that had been ignored:

"Run across this section of floor one at a time." Instructions of this nature have to be followed to keep the prospects of success in the quest good. Ignoring instructions like this endangers everyone in the party and jeopardizes completion.

If I'm on a TR, the accumulation of experience is my first priority. Party deaths, quest reentries, solo exploration, pulling unnecessary aggro, and running away from the party to break boxes when we're about to fight a boss are all actions with which I have little patience.

I half wonder if graphic differences/issues would mean some pugs don't get what you told them.

Of course then I realize how many more puggers there are to take the place of that one.

While I agree with this in theory you have your terminology backwards. No you can't heal stupid, but stupidity is ignorance after instruction.

Ignorance : the state or fact of being ignorant : lack of knowledge, education, or awareness

Stupidity: a poor ability to understand or to profit from experience.

Ignorance is lack of knowledge, stupidity is unable to benefit from instruction. So swap your terminaology and you hit it on the head.

Um... well they're the dictionary definitions and like a lot of words they don't mean the same as in MMO's. I'd consider ignorant as unWILLING to learn and unwilling to accept any (new) advice.

Stupid is less of a willingness but rather an inability to understand what someone's telling you.

So, although yours are the official meanings majority determines right as far as usage is concerned here so I agree more with the earlier post by Twilite.
