Question possible way to reduce lag (or make it worse :p)

i havent searched for this, so i dont know if its already been brough up or not, but its something the devs could think about.

to be honest i saw this in another game, but it seemed to work there. make each server have a number of sub-servers
eg: Cannith, realms 1-8, or some such depending on the current population of the server it would be different. characters would be for the whole server, but players would have to choose what realm to join also.

in effect its adding more servers, but its reducing the number of people in each instance for each realm, instead of having however many hundreds of people running each quest at the same time, causing rediculous amounts of lag. some problems however would be with guilds. you log in, choose your realm, ****, no-one from your guild is on this realm . they could make a mechanism for it to tell us when our guildies are online and change the guild tab to tell us which realm they're on.

anyone with suggestions on how to make this more effective can post whatever they would like to see if they did something like this

i look forward to any and all responses

They already do this... Go to the marketplace and look at the number next to the word "Marketplace". Click on the word and it becomes a dropdown list that you can use to move to a different instance of the marketplace.

I'm not sure how it helps lag, but apparently it does.

Also there is a thing called hireling lag that has something to do with the coding(not sure since I am not a software engineer). And there is the DPS lag which if you have ever entered the Shroud you will see. I am pretty sure they know about those. That is about the only lag I get so far. Its livable but I hope they are working on it.

yes well i meant something for when you actually choose your character, then your subserver. it would still have those different market instances but would allow for greater population per server and still reduce lag (somehow )

Do we know if Turbine is doing anything about hirling lag? This is annoying for us that try to "solo" dungeons with our hireling only to have it lag out.

unfortunately the only way to really fix lag is to rewrite the engine and netcode.

Op, what you are describing is called instancing. DDO already does this on a much larger (number of) but smaller (size of) instance scale than creating one more instance of a "world".

Champions Online does as you described. When player load hits a level, the server will spawn up a new instance of the "world".
