    Default Ddo and cancer.

As i sit at my last day of work, i wonder if i will be able to come back to it. In 4 days I start radiation theropy for cancer. I say this not for sympathy, but in celebration of 2+ years of gaming with you guys. I started ddo back up, and less then 2 days later I was diagnosed with the cancer. Playing with everyone has helped keep my spirits up and my mind off things.

Somethings I have learned over the time:

    1) Cancer doesnt mean all humor is gone. Laugh at everything.
    2) Dont be afraid to talk about it, but dont dwell on the fact you have cancer.
    3) Be healthy. It helps with everything.
    4) If you think something might be wrong, have it checked out. If I had waited 2 more weeks according to the doctor, he gave me a 5% chance of making it.
    5) Never ever give up!! When I was diagnosed, there was roughly a 50/50 shot I would make it. I did everything the docs said, and with the radiation, it is almost a sure thing im gonna make it.
    6) Talk to people. Cancer is serious, and can mess with your head as well.
    7) It puts gaming in a whole new light. I can count the times I actually get po'd in game on one hand.

So as I head to the hospital, I just want to thank the DDO community as a whole for helping me get through this. You guys are great.

    Cheers,

    Wes AKA Hob

Some people turn to religion and prayer in situations like yours. I don't believe in god, but I do believe in the power of positive thought to help cure the body. If playing this game does that for you, great!

You've got hard times ahead of you my friend. Keep that positive vibe up!

People beat cancer all the time. You're no different. Best of luck for a speedy and complete recovery, and hope to see you back in the game.

Agreed. The true test of one's character is not how you react to success, but how you react to adversity. OP has the right mindset, that's for sure.

Be good to you. Drink a lot of water. Even when you do not want to drink it, it helps. No - beer does not count, not till the Doc slaps you on the back and says "get". Its summer, stay out of the sun during treatment. Get the lotion that they tell you to use and use it. Its not going to make you girly, but it will help. Laugh, laugh all the time and if you get the Radio Tech with no humour laugh at them. Be good to you. This to shall pass. Play DDO. It also helps. /hug

As someone going into a health care, you should know you are in good hands. Cancer is much more treatable than it was even ten years ago. I want to wish you the best of luck during your treatment, let us know if there is anything the community can do to help you along!

That is a good attitude to have for happiness and sanity. Or is it insanity? The two blend together sometimes, sorry.

Positive attitude is key, and you have it.

Keep up the positive attitude Hob,
    you CAN beat this thing...

    And I echo Doc's sentiment.

    Qft:

    NEVER GIVE UP!

    NEVER

Hang in there and keep the faith Hob!

Hope to see you again soon.

Eh, I found best thing was to find humor in everything.

When doctor gave me a prostate exam I rolled over and told that idiot he needed more lube and he should have got me dinner first. Nurse had to leave the room to hide her laughing, doc was not amused. I thought it was hilarious.

When I had surgery, I had a friend sharpee "Its testinal not testical cancer, leave my nuts alone" onto my bad and stomach.

When I lost my hair, I went got a nipple tattoo on the back of my head.
