Default Why all the WoW vs DDO threads lately?

    Seriously...why?

DDO is like a Porsche. It is not designed for the masses of idiots. It is designed for a more "mature" audience. It's game play has many fine points to it. But Porsche...since it is made for "higher tier drivers"...it is outsold by many other car manufacturers. Porsche cars like DDO; are extremely fun, but can be unforgiving. I am speaking from experience...a Mid-engine rear-wheel drive car such as the Boxster can spin out if you make a mistake. But its that feeling of accomplishment that comes along with drving a nice car and challenging your abilities is what makes Porsche/DDO special. TBH not everyone can play and suceed in DDO. DDO is the only MMO I have played that you have to have a game plan when building a new character. There is no "easy button" to undo screw-ups. That is something I actually like.

WoW is like Ford. It is designed for pretty much everyone, but anyone who is more adept or wants a challenge will get bored with it. Ford/WoW are fine products in there own right...just not my cup of tea.

You see, Ford/WoW caters to everyone. You have the Taurus, Mini-van, Compacts, Sub-Compacts and Trucks/SUVs and of course the Mustang. The only thing is not all the research and developement go into just one thing. Ford spreads its money and developement around so everything kinda suffers a little bit. WoW has PVE and PVP and etc...

By DDO focusing on JUST PVE and ignoring PVP...we get the best PVE experience out there.

So in conclusion...if you want PVP...buy your Mini-van or sub-compact or truck (nothing wrong with that), and play WoW.

Me? I will stick with my Porsche pure Sports Car and DDO.

And maybe...just maybe...we will quit having these stupid DDO vs WoW threads.

WoW is not bad...its just not similar to DDO. These should not be compared.

My unedumacated, n00b take on it is that it was started by a troll yesterday (successfully) then was attempted to be replicated by another troll (unsuccessfully) with several tongue-in-cheek threads mocking the trolls. Therefore it was the weekend theme. But I guess the comparison comes up to a lesser degree often.

Sorry to be really anal but a porsche isnt mid engine. Mid engine cars have the engine infront of the rear wheels, a porsche is considered a rear engine, rear wheel drive. Which is why they recieve alot of criticisim for it. Mid engined is tried and tested, rear engine no one could make work properly due to the pendulum effect. An effect porsche has only really been able to get a hold on in the last 10 years or so. But they stuck with it and perfected the technology...... Sorry, I dont wana de-rail so, on topic.....

I agree totally. Stop comparing WoW and DDO. Its pointless and irrelevent. As was suggested alot of times, if you want what WoW has to offer then you just go play WoW.

EDIT:##Sorry, I mis-read that this morning, I didnt pay attention to you specifying the boxster. And then why i tried to add this the site has been down for hours But yes, Ill shut up now, and an un reserved apology to bacab

Actually the Boxter (S) and Cayman are MR. The 911 is RR.

Though this is not common knowledge. Typically on a road course driven by amateur drivers...comparably equipped horsepowered Boxster/Cayman's post better times than 911's. This is based on my "driver skills" classes with the Porsche Club in Washington at SIR. I agree about the pendulum effect also. It does affect MR cars, but RR cars are affected even more. This is why professionals can take an RR car around extremely fast, but us mortals can't lol. But yeah this kinda makes my point. I rather drive a difficult car like a Porsche and be rewarded for my effort than drive a soul-less WRX or EVO. Or drive a missile like a Mustang or Camaro (you don't drive Mustang's or Camaro's..you aim them).

And +1 Rep for being a Porsche fan and having real driving knowledge.

My favorite part of the WoW hate is that a large portion of the haters here have never played it.

DDO is an MMORPG, WOW is an MMORPG. WoW is easily the best selling MMORPG ever and because of that will be used as a comparison for any other MMO on the market. There will always be comparisons.

The MMO space is odd in that there literally is a 500 pound elephant in the room called WoW. Still, I can eat at a local restaurant and not compare the food to McDonalds, I don't understand why WoW has to be the benchmark for MMO chat.

I'm not sure I would compare McDonalds to a restaurant anymore than I would compare a 99 cent dry cleaner to a tailor....

but still, WoW is arguably the MOST successful and MOST prolific MMO in the history of the genrea. It has spawned its own culture (much like D&D did). People like to make comparisons to the best the same way that people like to talk about a "Windows Killer OS" or the newest "iPhone Killer". Only when you are the one on top do the comparisons become "Who will be the DDO killer?" or "Will WoW take the title back from DDO?"
The problem is never how to get new, innovative thoughts into your mind, but how to get old ones out. Every mind is a building filled with archaic furniture. Clean out a corner of your mind and creativity will instantly fill it.

I am sorry but DDO is no longer the porsche it once was, F2P brought us down to at least Volkswagon status.
The game has been dumbed down tremendously to appeal to a larger audience. Is it at the Lada levels of WOW, not yet, but give Turbine some time.

Actually, the mass banhammer has caused a mass exodus. I have heard they are trying out a store themselves.

This is an all encompassing mechanic, not restricted to the Porsche class...

I think maybe some of it could be more players from WOW are migrating due to WOW requiring a sub, whereas DDO is now FTP. The economy being the way it is, the new adds and publicity for DDO getting the word out, why not play a FTP game, and try to change it to what you like but can't afford, or can't get ma and pa to fork over the subscription money for.
lol the rest are trolls though
